Polk High Cubs Triumph In Season Opener Over Hampton

Polk High Cubs defeated the Hampton Hawks 56 34 in the opener with a torrid fourth quarter surge. Joel Stevens led with 15 points as Polk built a 40 36 lead after three periods and outscored Hampton in the final frame 14 0. Norm Reckner and Wayne Heiden contributed rebounds and assists as Polk’s bench won the second game 61 25.

Polk Schools dismiss early for Christmas vacation

All grades in Polk Schools will be dismissed at 2 30 p m on December 22 for Christmas vacation. Classes resume on Tuesday January 3 1967.

MERVIN BRANTING HURT IN TREE-CUTTING FALL

Mervin Branting known as Silver in Polk was seriously injured in a fall from a tree Saturday morning in Harrison Park York where he worked as park superintendent. He was taken by ambulance to Bryan Memorial Hospital Lincoln for surgery and is reported paralyzed from the waist down. No eyewitnesses could be found.

Brazda couples win Nassau trip for 4 from John Deere

Mr James Brazda Sr and Mr Glen Brazda along with their spouses earned a five day vacation in Nassau Bahamas. The trip, awarded by John Deere Co, recognizes outstanding 1966 tractor sales. They travel on the 8th and 9th of this month for a five day stay in the plush resort area.

Aker Heads Swede Plain Farmers Union

P W Aker was elected president of the Swede Plain Farmers Union local at their annual dinner in Stromsburg. Ben Peterson became vice president and M G Lindburg secretary. Rev Wood gave the invocation. Dwight Burney spoke on taxation and legislative issues. Slides and exhibits from a Holy Land trip were shown by Mr and Mrs Dwight Burney.

Services Held For William Blase 80 In Immanuel Lutheran

Funeral services for William C. Blase 80 were held December 6 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with interment at Immanuel Cemetery. He died Sunday in a Aurora hospital after four months there. The Rev John Oppliger officiated. Survivors include his widow a daughter five sons a sister and a brother and 21 grandchildren.
