Feed Grain Program Proven Successful Says U S Agriculture Dept

The U S Department of Agriculture defends the emergency feed grain program begun in March 1961, saying it increased net farm income by 9 percent, kept meat and dairy prices steady, saved about 500 million in taxpayer costs, and cut government stockpiles, contrasting with Benson era policies. The statement argues the program reversed a downward farm-income trend and reduced surplus stocks for the first time since 1952.
