Merrick county fair association meets in Clarks to decide not to hold the annual fair for 1916 due to exhibitors for geese and poultry refusing to exhibit without protected buildings. A permanent fair location is proposed with petitions to be filed for voter action at the next election. Variety store sale ad and bank statements noted in this issue.
Osceola chautauqua schedule lists daily concerts lectures and appearances from August 20 to 25 including Harmonic Singers Oyepela Company readings by Adrian M Newens and Dr Lincoln Wirt, plus tributes by American Artists and Seven States Orchestra. Local notices follow with visitors and purchases noted.
Pears and peaches from Bells Orchard in Palisade Colorado will be available in limited quantities. One third of a car of pears will arrive in a few days, followed by half a car of peaches around September first. Call to place orders.
Pure Food Grocery owner David Anderson fronts local business notices. August 15 is Welcome Home Day in Osceola with all county stores closing. Citizens urged to visit and thank servicemen who aided in defeating Kaiserism.
The Julesburg Co operative Grain Co elevator reports average get of about 6,000 bushels of seed per acre in their wheat crop. Some fields thought to yield 20 to 25 bushels per acre now show 30 to 45 bushels, promising good profits for local farmers in a prosperous region. The notice also adverts available farms in Polk and neighboring counties for sale.
