Polk Bible Camp Hosts Family Gathering for 600 Strong

More than 600 people attended the Polk Bible Camp family camp of the Midwest District Evangelical Free Church. The Sunday message by District Superintendent Marvin Westlund closed the gatherings, and a memorial service honored late Dr. John Campbell, former camp doctor. An offering of 1350 dollars was raised for camp expansion and improvements, with praise for Ron Foote and Gene Lockwood for managing the camp.

John Ifegwood Joins Professional Fraternity

Twenty three University of Nebraska students named to Phi Delta Kappa membership a fraternity for educators. Initiates must be graduate students with at least 15 hours of education study. Polk High School principal John H. Hegwood is the Polk entry.

Osceola Leads Summer Rec Playday Wins in Polk district

Osceola's 11 13 year old team ran undefeated through three days of play at Polk with Benedict second Gresham third and Polk fourth after a bye in the opening round Polk girls win state district tourney earnings total 341 to fund uniforms. Donations included 10 from Richard Sealey Jr and 15 from Melvin Bender plus several anonymous gifts.

Garden Club Hosts Two County Clubs

The Polk Garden Club entertained the Stromsburg and Osceola Garden Clubs at Polk Community Hall on July 16 for a seven o'clock supper. About 45 guests were served from floral decorated tables. The program included the Polk club song and creed, then Mr and Mrs Gary Harless showed colored slides from Germany and the Holland tulip festival. the Polk club presented them a gift.

Polk Girls Fall Short In District Softball Tourney

Polk collected one win and two losses in the district tourney held last weekend. They finished fourth after losses to Ulysses and Clarks, with JFK Patriottes of Wahoo dominating the event by scoring 49 runs in four games and allowing only one. The Roadrunners, Clarks, York, Central City, and Grand Island also posted key results as the tournament progressed.
