Nebraska adopts Natural Resource Districts plan for 1972
The Nebraska Legislature created NRDs in 1969 and sets July 1 1972 as the operative date. All land in the state will join 24 districts and NRDs will absorb functions from soil and water conservation and watershed boards. Some districts remain as unaffiliated special districts and cannot be organized after July 1 1972. First NRD board will include current district directors with mayors appointing members and Omaha’s appointee by the county board.
