Polk High Cubs, led by Rich Owens and Mike Fleming, won the Class D division with 123 points at an invitational track meet hosting 20 schools. Randy Branting set three meet records in long jump, triple jump, and high jump. Several Polk athletes earned multiple podium finishes across events.
Mr and Mrs Roy Ehn celebrate forty years with an open house at 340 Judson Street Longmont Colorado on Sunday April 17 from 2 to 5 p.m. Hosted by their children Richard and Tammy and Terry Ehn and other relatives invitees welcome.
David Lindgren son of Rev and Mrs Clifford Lindgren wins the mile and two mile at the Polk Invitational track meet setting Class D meet records with times of 4:595 and 10:56 respectively.
Community groups invite families to an Easter breakfast at 8:00 Sunday morning hosted by Methodists. The event emphasizes family attendance and fellowship to start the holiday.
The American Legion Auxiliary hosts an Easter egg hunt for children from Kindergarten to sixth grade at the Legion Hall on Saturday April 9 at 2 p.m.
A large audience enjoyed the Polk Community Chorus cantata Behold Your King at the high school auditorium on Palm Sunday. Director Lynn Fletcher accompanied by pianist Vern Samuels led soloists and section singers including Jean Nielsen Gwen Lindburg Norma Bodine Donna Bodine Jane Nyberg Janice Saylor Eilene Hanson Marlene Hanquist Delores Rahrs Connie Ang Donna Lindburg Virginia Samuelson Jan Lindburg Bill Tallman Dennis Stevens Gregg Hanquist Rev Willis Pauls John Nyberg. Invocation by Rev John McCurdy and benediction by Rev Clifford Lindburg preceded the offering prayer. The congregation joined the chorus in singing Christ the Lord Is Risen Today.
Here I Am reports the birth of Kari Lee to Lanny Ang and spouse on April 2 arriving at home weighing 5 pounds unnamed units. Grandparents are Max Jones and Stan ford Ang. Kari has a brother Kevin.
Community Action agencies can weatherize homes across Nebraska counties using manpower and equipment. Materials funded from Title XX for eligible clients. Projects must be completed between April 1 and June 30, 1977. Applicants include current Social Services recipients, SSI/State Supplement beneficiaries, or other low income individuals. Visit local Welfare office or call 747-5351 for information. Applications sent to Community Action Office for contact.
A correction notes that Citizens State Bank is an independently owned bank and not a member of a rural bank chain. Independent banks were praised for benefiting communities more than chain banks in last week's Progress story.
Peggy Neeman a 17 year old Polk resident daughters of Mr and Mrs Dick Neeman has been selected as a finalist in the 1977 Miss Nebraska National Teen-Ager Pageant to be held June 10 to 12 at Concordia College Seward Nebraska. The winner advances to Atlanta Georgia August 5 1977 for the national event and earns college scholarships and an all expense paid trip. Contestants are judged on scholastic achievement leadership poise personality and beauty with no swimsuit or talent portion and a 100 word essay on Whats Right About America. Neeman is sponsored by The Food Shop Polk Oil Co MacDonalds Market Citizens State Bank. Her hobbies include music crafts and sports.
Rolland 8Ball and Elaine Stromberg mark their Silver Wedding anniversary with an open house at Polk Legion Club on Saturday April 16 from 8 30 p m to 12 inviting relatives and friends without further invitation.
Ruth Aker was honored with a birthday gathering in her room at Central City hospital Long Term Care on Saturday. Attendees included Don and Mrs Haggart from Grand Island, Mrs Herbert Wurtz, Ruth Douglas from Clarks, Junior Lindburg and family, and Ruth's roommate Mrs Dorothy Nielsen among others.
Mr Orlie Miller was admitted to Lutheran Hospital in Grand Island on Thursday afternoon. Mrs Roy Glasser Jr remains a patient at York Hospital. Mrs Loyette McCoy has returned home from York Hospital last Monday.
