Tim Benson of Kearney won first place in the state Junior Olympic wrestling meet held in Lincoln in the Intermediate 190 lb division. He earned a spot at the national meet after taking gold medal honors last summer. Benson is grandson of Mr and Mrs Stevens and great grandson of Mr and Mrs Orendorff.
Gail Samuelson, Polk High School senior and Dean Samuelson’s daughter, earned a one year Regents Scholarship to the University of Nebraska Lincoln. She becomes the fourth Samuelson to win a Regents Scholarship after Bruce in 1969 Janette in 1972 and Cheryl in 1973. The award covers one year's tuition.
The Women's Missionary Society of the Baptist Church held a bridal shower for Miss Marla Branting on March 22. All church ladies attended and guests included Marla's grandmother Mrs Carl Wilson of David City and Mrs Terry Branting of Lincoln. Mrs Conrad Lindholm visited Mrs Frances Widga Monday afternoon.
Members of Polk Evangelical Free Church gather at Polk Bible Camp for a Saturday banquet to launch 75th anniversary events. Rev. Phil Thengvall guest speaks. Sunday services feature sermon by Rev. Milford Olson with reminiscences by Olson and District Supt. Charles Crabtree. Public invited.
Heart Fund collections totaling 1687. in Polk County were reported to the state association by county chairman G. E. Ekstrand. Contributions listed include Osceola 265.30 Polk 341.60 Shelby 473.15 and Stromsburg 586.93. Area residents are reminded memorial gifts to the Heart Association are accepted year round and to contact a local chairman for information.
Mrs Hannah Bodine, Mrs Ruth Bills and Mr Grant Johnson are patients in Osceola hospital. Bodine injured in a car accident and Johnson suffered a heart attack last Saturday night.
Walter Fisher turned 90 at the Good Samaritan Home Osceola with great granddaughters Tammy and Cheryl Fisher baking the cake. Attending were Robert Berger Larry Cates Coila Cates Morris Fisher and family Mertie Saint and Ramona Chappel Ralph Fisher and others. He received over forty birthday cards.
Mary Lou Sandell of Lincoln spent Friday and Saturday with her parents, Mr and Mrs Elwood Sandell. Mr and Mrs Wallace Sandell were among other guests for an Easter Sunday dinner in the home of Mr and Mrs Clarence Hawke at Archer. Mr and Mrs Merton Frodman and Pat Hanson and children were Monday supper guests in the Car roll Flodman home to honor Car roll and Robin on their birthday.
Cindy Presley and Bill Miller were married March 15 at Polk Baptist Church in a 8:00 p.m. double ring ceremony officiated by Rev. Irving Stauffer. The couple's families hosted a reception at the church with attendants including maid of honor Darla LHeureux and best man Terry Van Housen. They reside in Polk.
