Excelsior Farmers Club Meets at Roewes Home

The Excelsior Farmers Club gathered at Mr. and Mrs. Fred Roewe’s home on Thursday evening May 18. Guests included Aug Roewe F K Hawley and John Furnace with two Laurens daughters. Members answered roll call with conundrums and shared a talk on school lunches and stock market facts. A social hour followed with a lively debate and a two course supper before adjournment.

Milking Machine Introduced In Community

W E Crane leads the area as the first to use a milking machine. After a month of operation, he says it is indispensable. The device milks twenty cows per hour, with an initial test of seventeen cows in forty five minutes. A gasoline engine powers the system, located away from the barn, keeping milking clean and sanitary. It is simple to regulate the machine for each cow, and easy to clean.

Laurens schools will present their annual exhibit at the Masonic Hall on Friday May 28, with students from several grade levels showcasing projects and achievements to the public.

An afternoon exhibit from 1:30 to 5 P M will feature student hand work from grades and daily productions. Sewing and Manual Training articles will be shown, with each child’s efforts displayed for parents to view. Domestic Science girls will sell canned fruit, and everyone is invited.

Ames Offers Free Summer Training For Rural Teachers

To help rural and grade teachers meet the new law requirements in Iowa, Iowa State College at Ames offers summer training in home economies agriculture and manual training tuition free. Two sessions will run to accommodate all teachers and complete the program before July 1.

Ames Rural Schoolwork Courses Begin June and July

Two six week sessions start June 14 and July 26 at Ames offering practical rural teaching methods not in standard classrooms. Emphasis on preparing warm noon lunches as a basis for home economics in country schools with a specially designed domestic science cabinet. About 300 teachers from last summer praised the program, which offers state certified examiner approvals and direct college credit.
