Spencer Edges Local Foes After Fourteenth Inning Rally
In Spencer last Tuesday, a fourteen inning baseball game ended 9 to 8 in favor of the Spencer high school. After seven innings the score was 6 to 5, both sides scored twice in the ninth to tie at 7 to 7. Orin Ackland hit a three base hit with two aboard but was ruled out for failing to touch second. No further scoring until the twelfth, when each side posted one. Spencer produced the winning run in the fourteenth. It was a great game.

Sibley Wins 8 1 Over Local High School Team
Supt. McAnelly brought Sibley high school players to town last Friday. The visitors defeated the local boys 8 to 1 with a dominant pitcher and strong batting. Bartley pitched well but costly fielding errors and lack of support hurt. The locals blamed an off day for the defeat.

Faville to Speak at Decoration Day Address
The Decoration Day committee secured F. F. Faville of Storm Lake as speaker. Faville, in demand for special days, has declined many invitations due to poor health recently. He will deliver the address Monday afternoon May 31.

Mrs S F Russell dies at Laurens aged 53
Hattie Emily Lee, born July 6 1861 in Madison Wisconsin, died May 13 1915 at her Laurens area home. She married 8 F Russell November 28 1878, leaving four daughters Cora B Mansmith Jessie G Siddall Mary B Lindsey and Lucy E Seelye who died 1911. Survived by husband, mother, three brothers, one sister, fourteen grandchildren. Funeral held Sunday at 2 pm from George Siddall home, Rev George Henry pastor of Christain Church officiated. interment Laurens cemetery.

J G Hinn resumes full control of the mill after a complete overhaul. The machinery has been refreshed to near new condition and operations began last Monday with continuous grinding planned.

Butler Family Welcomes Ten Pound Daughter
A ten pound daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Andy Butler last Monday. Miss Daisy Butler of Ashton Illinois is here visiting her brother Andy Butler and family. George Wells, his brother John and his sister Mrs. Smith left last week in the auto for an extended trip through the Eastern part of the state and in Illinois to visit relatives. A A Ressigue spent Sunday at the home of his son Ed south of town and at the H E Crippen home. Mr Ressigue is making his home at present with a son near Terrill where he is helping to improve some land that he owns. F J Wells of Keosauqua was here yesterday visiting relatives and calling upon old friends. He had been up into North Dakota on a business trip and stopped of on his return to take his aunt Mrs Edward Wells home with him for an extended visit.

Pomeroy loses state debate title to Iowa Falls in Iowa City
Pomeroy High school fell to Iowa Falls Friday night in the state debate final held in Iowa City after earlier wins in Northwest Iowa and over Bedford for the western state title. Ft. Dodge takes Big Four Field Meet at Fonda and secures the Fairburn cup with a third straight half mile relay victory. Laurens boys fared poorly as the meet proved too fast for placing.
