Crescents Win Twelfth Annual Stars and Crescents Contest
The Crescents won the twelfth annual Stars and Crescents contest at the opera house last Friday before a packed house. Pred Ferguson won first in oratory with Dale Norton second. Lake Mather won first in dramatic with Mavis Gilchrist second. Fred Gilchrist won first in humorous with Helen Mather second. Helen Mather will represent Laurens school in humorous. winners in each class advance to the county contest tomorrow. Fred Gilchrist is noted as a previous year’s winner.

The Manatt's window turkey ate 1943 kernels during a four day display. C W Weeks guessed 1937 and won the bird. Pearl Peters on was second with 1987. The range of guesses spanned from 9 to 30400 kernels.
