Obituary of J A Swearingen of Laurens
J A Swearingen born Holmes County Ohio November 1861 died November 26 1914 at daughter Mrs Jack Willims Laurens after months of ill health. He married Carrie Winey March 27 1884 Manning Iowa and lived in Oklahoma before moving back to Laurens. Survived by wife two children Charles Swearingen and Mrs. Williams plus five sisters and three brothers. Funeral Sunday by Rev Gerkin and burial in Laurens cemetery. He was remembered as a kind neighbor who helped others.

Rolfe Fire Nearly Destroys Town and Elevators
A Sunday night blaze in Rolfe damaged the Updike elevator near Northwestern Depot and threatened the business district. The Northwestern depot burned, but Shull’s lumber yard and M. T. Blessing’s residence were saved after a determined fight. About 150000 bushels of oats and 90000 bushels of corn were affected, with total losses estimated at 100000 dollars.

Laurens Woman's Club Meets With Mrs Wood
The Laurens Woman's Club met on November 13 with Mrs Wood instead of Mrs Taylor. The meeting yielded a pleasant and profitable afternoon with a discussion on immigration replacing the scheduled debate. Mrs Henry presented a good paper on Newspapers and current events. next meeting with Mrs Norton on November 27.

The Thursday Study Club met Thursday afternoon November 19 with Mrs. B. E. Allen. Ten members answered roll call. Papers were read on Women as Reformers by Mrs. Greenwood and The Revolutionary War by Mrs. Gill. Meeting adjourned to December 8 at Mrs. Swanson.
