Alpine District Plans and Bids Highlight June School Board Meeting

Alpine District Board of Education discussed high school construction in Lehi Pleasant Grove and American Fork with architect William R Smith from Salt Lake City. Bids for bonds and new school buildings were approved and key land and equipment purchases were authorized for the 1956-56 budget totaling 3.198 million.

Mrs Leonard Millar Injured in Geneva Highway Crash

Mrs Leonard E Millar of 264 East Battle Creek Drive was severely injured Friday when a cow struck her car on the Geneva Highway causing it to swerve into oncoming traffic. She suffered five rib fractures and a basal skull injury and is hospitalized at American Park hospital with at least two weeks confinement.

Strawberry Day in Pleasant Grove Ends With Broad Support

The 1955 Strawberry Day festival in Pleasant Grove drew broad citizen approval despite a few critics. The celebration, the town’s outdoor kickoff of spring, showcased blooms and local cooperation, offered fund-raising for projects, and served as a homecoming for former residents. Weather rainstorms boosted farm value and community morale, with plans to continue annually.

Nels Godfrey Nelson age 60 of Pleasant Grove dies after a long illness. Born March 1 1895 in Sweden he worked as a mechanic for United Concrete Co. He married Ellen Heberson in Salt Lake City on September 2 1943. Survived by widow a daughter Sue a brother and two sisters. Services set for Saturday at 1 pm in the Grove Ward LDS Chapel with viewing at Anderson and Sons Mortuary American Fork Friday 7 to 9 pm and Saturday prior to the funeral. Burial in Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.

Rae Christensen Elected Vice President Of Garden Clubs

Rae Christensen was elected 1st vice president of the Utah Associated Garden Clubs to serve with newly elected president Mrs Beth Stier of Salt Lake City. Foreign Students Visit Here on Strawberry Day

Thirteen young college students from nine foreign countries visited Pleasant Grove for Strawberry Day 1955. They toured Utah County studying irrigation practices, enjoyed strawberries with cream, and inspected the United Concrete Pipe Plant. Countries represented included Brazil Chile El Salvador Philippines Turkey Haiti Iran Honduras and New Zealand.

Old Folks Committee Hosts Spring Social in Lehi Park

After a day at the Tri-State Old Folks party at Wines Park Lehi the Old Folks committee of Tien Panagos stake gathered at Linflon Park in the evening. About 40 members attended and enjoyed toasted welner sandwiches and water baseban as they relaxed and discussed the day’s events.
