Plessanis Grays name Johnson to head their option for the coming term at a Wednesday night lunch meeting at Lunchronatte cafe. Johnson succeeds Dr G Y Anderson as president of the organized Lions club with officers elected: S W first vice president J N second vice president Wes inc secretary-treasurer Clar Collins lion tamer E R West sister and R Clark and Peay directors.
Smith and R Clark are co leaders with three wins and no losses as Mercur Lindon Markel and H W Jacobs top the standings. Last week saw Mercur Lindon Jacobs and Smith Drug win, while G R Clark and Boren Market also recorded victories. Home Run Club members Dick Peterson and West posted notable power displays amid a busy local season.
Y Anderson of Pleasbye is named to a staff post at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo. An official hospital notice confirms the appointment this week.
This week Bishop C. R. announced the nation exercises of the Second Primary association scheduled for Sunday evening at the regiment meeting. The association, led by president Mrs Allred, will be part of the program.
Pleasant Grove plans to enter two contestants in the Provo Fourth of July celebration. The selection will be at the Alhambra Theatre Saturday night at 7 30. Any girl in the Timpanogos stake may enter the elimination contest. Three Provo judges will pick the two most beautiful contestants. The winners will receive a bathing suit to wear in the Provo event.
Josie G Welker released as president of the Young Women's Mutual Improvement Association of Timpanogos stake and Estelle Fenton sustained as the new president at the quarterly conference. Mrs Ray Merrill and Mrs Reva Pugal named counselors. Rulon Brimhall released as second counselor and Dean Walker chosen as successor. Conference well attended with Louise Robinson of the general Relief Society board present.
Four-H girls of the Third ward eligible for second year sewing met at Mrs. Laurel Scholes home with Mrs. Scholes and Mrs. Nora Macfarlane as leaders. Officers chosen: June Adamson president Eva Pederson vice president Carol Christiansen secretary Mary Louise Adamson reporter Maxine Atwood song and cheer leader. Ten girls enrolled. Meetings set for Wednesdays at 3 PM at designated homes.
Horace Joseph Culmer longtime Lindon resident died at home Saturday of asthma and heart ailment. Funeral services were held Thursday in the Lindon Ward chapel. Born October 30 1878 in Pleasant Grove he married Emma Harris in 1900. Surviving are widow Emma Harris Culmer three daughters Mildred Cook Emma Clements Amy Civish Harris eleven grandchildren and several brothers and sisters.
Under the state home economics plan Pleasant Grove girls will lead a home task project under Ellen Walker with guidance. Projects cover clothing care sewing remodeling landscaping embroidery grooming budgeting housing and laundering. Names listed include Maurine Hansen Helen Hendrickson Helen Robinson Leora Newman Lucille Newman and many others.
The Utah State Agricultural College observed the twenty fifth anniversary of the state extension service on June 3 under W W Owens. The broadcast was on KSL and traced the program from 1896 funding to 1914 Smith Lever Act, noting key leaders and growth of staff and reach across Utah communities.
A Utah State Employment Service director argues that diagnosing the problem is required before curing unemployment. He cites studies of rehabilitating unemployed individuals through surgery for disabilities, and previews a broader public program to show the employment office’s rehabilitative potential.

City council approved the appointment of Mrs Ethel W Carlson as librarian of the Pitnsant Grove public library. She will fill the position vacated by Genevieve T Smith and begin duties on July 1 after broad public and patron approval. Carlson has seven years of local library experience from 1929 to 1936 and thanked the council and public for support.
Children will hear adventures in a park setting Tuesday afternoon at 4 o clock. The Timpanogas stake Primary association directs the event for all stake children. Kids should bring lunch for a picnic while six costumed story tellers present thrilling tales to groups. A good time is planned for all attendees.
Eight Pleasant Grove students are among 470 registered in the first term of Brigham Young University summer school which began last week. Leading educators teaching include Dr. Ned H. Dearborn Dr. Fred C. Frey and James J. Nuttall. The Third Annual Conference on Education runs June 19 to 23 and features the Roth Quartet Rollin Péasé David O McKay Rabbi David H Wice and A M Harding among guests. The 28th Annual Timpanogos Hike is set for July 14 and 15.

City officials announced this week that street sprinkling may be discontinued unless better payment response is received. Most residents cooperate, but some do not. To continue the service, all residents on sprinkled streets must contribute to labor and equipment costs. During the coming week the city marshal will call from house to house to collect. Residents are urged to cooperate to reduce street dust.
