Variety Show Aids Strawberry Day Kickoff At Pleasant Grove

A Ple asant Grove High School variety show on Wednesday evening June 18 begins Strawberry Day activities. Co chairs Jim Hindley and Clive Beck say the program starts at 7 30 p m and runs up to 14 ½ hours, allowing time for a teenage dance downtown. The Salt Flats quartet The Terry Sisters and The Gents perform songs and comedy suitable for all ages with a nationwide tour background.

Bronze Star Awarded Posthumously to Lindon Soldier

Sgt. David N. Rasmussen of Lindon received the Bronze Star Medal the Purple Heart the Good Conduct Medal and the Combat Infantryman's Badge posthumously at a ceremony. Col Charles M. Shaddle presented the awards on behalf of David who was killed near Cu Chi Vietnam on Aug 24 1968. He was a Pleasant Grove High School graduate class of 1967 and enlisted Aug 18 1967.

A fire caused by exploding adhesive fumes ripped through the home of Mr and Mrs Ed Roberts at 240 East 300 North Pleasant Grove around 1 30 pm Thursday June 5 The kitchen exploded when fumes from synthetic adhesive ignited by a gas stove pilot light The blaze trapped 5 year old Rachel Roberts until her sister Rea Dee escaped with two younger sisters The home was undergoing extensive alterations and the Rob erts were not present at the time

LDS Area Dance Festival Set for Saturday Night

An all church dance festival will be held Saturday June 14 at 8 30 p m in BYU Stadium Salt Lake City featuring 600 dancers from 25 stakes performing tango waltz swing foxtrot Western folk and square dances plus Arrow Indian dancers A 25 cent donation is suggested through a window to safety No injuries reported from a related house fire. four Roberts children were away at the time Pleasant Grove City firemen responded and saved most of the home.

Pleasant Grove to Host First Dual Meet Saturday

The Pleasant Grove swimming team will host its first inter community meet at 7 a.m. at the Pleasant Grove Veterans Memorial Pool. They face the Price Blue Whales and will meet Provo the following Saturday June 21 as part of Strawberry Days events.

Garden Club June Meeting At Simper Home

Pleasant Grove Garden Club held its June gathering at the Alice Simper home. Velma Gillman spoke on The Good Neighbor Policy. A rose bush will honor Lavina Fugal in the Rose Garden, and funds may be donated for more roses or shade trees. The club will sponsor the Flower Show for Strawberry Day. entries due by 7 am June 19 at Pleasant Grove Jr. High gym. A second show is set for June 21–22 at the State Garden Center in Salt Lake City, with local members hosting. Mrs. Simper demonstrated flower grooming for shows and Earline Walker demonstrated artistic arrangements with containers for various occasions. Refreshments followed.
