The Pleasant Grove Jaycees urge Governor to act on dangerous Highway 91 between Pleasant Grove and American Fork after signs were removed and frequent property damage occurred. They accuse the road of unsafe four lane use on a two lane design and call for immediate safety improvements, arguing human life is priceless.
Patrolman Kelvin W. Grant urges a mass civic movement to ensure all bicycles are legally equipped for safe night and day operation. He warns violators are subject to arrest and calls for involvement by civic clubs and parent groups to correct the broader issue.
Battle Creek Breeze notes Radman's Hardware offers dependable bicycle lights at about two dollars. The piece argues safety gear could have saved two teenage girls and their unharmed companion on Highway 61 after dark. Parents must ensure vehicles are properly equipped and avoid unnecessary late trips to prevent needless accidents.

Sorrowing relatives gathered Thursday Augud to honor Clarke B Allred age 54. Services were in the Lindon ward chapel at 2 30 p m with Bishop LeGrands Breanbrack in charge. A life sketch was read by Joan Anderson and remarks by C B Maxfield Alroy Gillman and W D Chapman. Interment at Pleasant Grove City cemetery with pallbearers from the Lindon Town Board.
Special Interest representatives from each ward of Timpanogos Stake met in the Third Ward Museum Hall to form a Stake Square Dance organization. George Smith was elected president with Cliff Hales as vice president and Jess Monson as secretary and treasurer. The group plans weekly rehearsals and a dance next Monday evening at 8:30 in the Third Ward, with strong enrollment expected.
Friendship Club meets Thursday at the home of Mrs. SD FE, with Mothers’ club members attending table games after a social hour. Guests included Mrs. Garnett and Mrs. Fenton, hosts and hostesses presided over by Mrs. Hendrichsen, with many members like Mrs. Adamson, Mrs. Gray, and Mrs. Nelson listed as attendees.
The Merrymakers enjoyed a well prepared luncheon with Mrs. Ruth Gamette at Orem on Thursday evening and later played Canasta. Prize winners included Mrs. Vedx Howard, Mrs. Helen Radmall and Mrs. Florence Goode. Invited guests were Mrs. Meredit Stratton, Mrs. Duell Jenson, and Mrs. Howard. Club members present included Mrs. Norma Armitstead, Mrs. Marion West, Mrs. Beth Olson, Mrs. Anna Adamson, Mrs. Florence Gude, Mrs. Helen Radmall, and Mrs. Bonnie Shifrer. Next meeting will be with Mrs. Helen Radmall Aug path Habow's ison. The rabbit has a bulging curved eye that enables him to see behind his back.
Funeral services are set for Saturday at 3 PM at Dibosant Grove First Yeard chapel for Dale Armitstead 2, who died Thursday morning after a short illness. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Lloyd Armitstead.
Alfred Riching announces the marriage of Glenda Richins and Ralph Murdock at the bride’s home on Friday evening with Bishop Christiansen officiating. Immediate family attended. reception followed. The couple honeymooned in Southern Utah and will reside in American Fork as the groom trains at a barber school in Salt Lake City.
Elva Nielson and Arlo Pierce wed in the Second Ward LDS chapel with Bishop E M Williams officiating on August 10. Attendants included Elda and Anna Beth as bridesmaids, Ward Pierce as best man, followed by a reception in the recreation hall.
4 H Club notes record meeting led by Mrs Grvat Bullock at 7 90 pm. Jane Linebaugh conducted the session. Janice Adamson offered a prayer. The girls planned a camp out for Thursday morning at 3 30.
The Tappanogos Stake Primary hosts a Harvest Festival on Wednesday August 16 at 2 pm in the city park. Participants include all Primary girls and boys presenting a playlet on four SD S missions with costumes from Summer Primary. It features songs dances and a parade finale plus two fish ponds and refreshment stands.
The Modernette club on Wednesday afternoon honored their outgoing officers Naomi Walker president Fern Maxfield secretary and Maxine West reporter at a canyon party President Mary Jacobs led the group as they played Mormon bridge and shared a chicken dinner. Prize winners Mrs Violet Beers and Mrs Virginia Chipman carried home prizes. Other attendees included Mrs Mildred Ferre Mrs Alta Noble Mrs Naoma Stubbs Mrs Beth McNees Mrs Ruby West and Mrs Lois Smith.
About one hundred members of the Carl and Hilde Anderson family gathered Saturday afternoon at the Third Ward chapel grounds. The event featured community singing informal program numbers and children’s games followed by a hearty picnic dinner. The Hulda Anderson Richins unit led the activities with participants from Salt Lake City Provo Tooele Springville and other points.
Ladies enjoyed luncheon and an evening of needlework with Mrs George Barton and guests including Mrs Eldon Westover Mrs Dan Peterson Mrs Golden Peay Mrs Thomas Tittenser Mrs Robert Marrett Mrs Lawrence Farr Mrs Harvey Smith Mrs Orson Lee Mrs Guy Hillman Mr T M Thomson and Mrs Howard Matthews in a relaxed gathering.
The 145th Field Artillery Utah National Guard unit based in Pleasant Grove along with Mt. Pleasant Nephi Spanish Fork and Provo prepares for mobilization on September 3. Commanded by Lt Col Ralph Morgan the unit traces to the Nauvoo Legion and served in World War II in the Pacific. Enlistments will be accepted before activation and eligible draftees may join if not yet given pre induction physical orders.
Mrs. Howard J. Mathews and Mrs. Howard Humphries hosted an informal shower for Ardith Wood Matthews, the recent Mrs Royce Matthews, at the Second Ward recreation hall. The program featured musical numbers by the Hales sisters, Barbara Jensen, Diane Thorne, and others, plus a tribute to the bride’s father. The couple married June 29 in Las Vegas and now reside at 426 S 5th East, Salt Lake City.
Saturday afternoon entertainment in Little Mill Camp An Fork canyon honored Carole Walker West as she prepares to enter the LDS mission field in September. Guests included Reed Richards and children from Mill Valley California Adrian Thomas Sterling and Mrs Charles Wyant from Salt Lake City Stanley Walker and Patricia Provo and Mrs Arvilla Harvey.
Mrs. B. H. Adams returned from a pleasant vacation at Green Mountain Falls near Colorado Springs. Her nephew Dr. Thodoro Haston of Hast Caroline Teachers College joined with Mrs. Easton, George, Lois, and Margaret. Also joining were Mrs. G. By Janlin of San Francisco and Mr. and Mrs. John Kohler of Oakland. A reunion with relatives followed. Picnicking and hiking were enjoyed, along with trips to Pikes Peak and Manila Mountain and a visit to Cripple Creek, once prosperous, now a ghost town.
Mrs Bytal Adamson celebrated her birthday with a Sunday dinner party. Guests included Mr and Mrs Grant Steven and son Mountain, Mr and Mrs Rex Cumming, Mr and Mrs Ray Ducvis, Mrs J and Oliver and three children Heber, Mr and Mrs Hugh Davin Provo, Grant Adamson and children, Dale A West and children, plus over 20 friends visiting in the afternoon.
AP&L announces near completion of a $140000 brick structure at American Park to house engineering, metering, stores and service departments for the Southern division. The project, along with several other upgrades including a new 200 kv substation near Mapleton and line reconstructions in Orem and Vernal, aims to improve electric service and reliability across Utah counties.
