The American Legion post cancels the Majestic Exposition carnival planned for this week. The advance representative failed to arrive and advertising plans could not be arranged, leading the Legion to withdraw the contract and send the company away.
Rain over the weekend wrecked ungraded and rural roads, hindering travel for country district residents. Graded and filled sections show rough going, with hard surfaced roads proving their value in wet seasons. Each rainy spell increases the call for graveling more country highways.
The report on Saturday's events at the Carey home is corrected. Mrs. Carey is said to have no part in any firearm demonstration and did not object to her husband packing goods or returning to Oklahoma. Neighbors have cared for Carey and prepared belongings for shipment, while she plans to join her former Oklahoma residence when able.
Last evening the First Methodist Straing school class members staged a Bible playlet At the Gate Beautiful focusing on the healing of Peter and John Despite stormy weather few attended yet the young performers delivered a reverent depiction The group hopes to present the play again at an upcoming Sunday service
Gust Foster who spent the summer in Denmark returned this morning and soon left for Louisville where he has lived for two years. He was employed by the Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Co. Foster visited his mother whom he had not seen since 1915 and met many old friends in his hometown.
Mrs. Margaret Brown former Plattsmouth resident died Saturday in Lincoln after months in hospital. Her body lay in state at Janda Bayerdorfer mortuary before a Mass at St. John’s Catholic church and burial at Oak Hill cemetery. Survived by three sisters and two brothers.
Mrs Henry Schomaker marked her 66th birthday with a surprise party at the home of Mrs Leo Switzer attended by about thirty local women. Her life in Nehawka spans decades and she recalls pioneer days, with a special arrival by Lottie Shotwell of Seattle adding to the day's two surprises.
Mr and Mrs Jesse Rising of Los Angeles visited the Livingston home en route to New York to see their son J D Rising a leading New York banker Mrs J D Rising is a daughter of the Livingstons and the party enjoyed a pleasant stay at the Livingston home.
A Saturday evening dance at the M W A hall for the Woodmen baseball team drew a pleasant crowd. The Try A orchestra provided lively up-to-date music and both old and modern dances kept young and older dancers enjoying the event.
Plattsmouth high wins opening football game against Omaha North 8 to 6 at local field. Wesco tt and Fitch spark offense while Gorder Hutton Mason and Stout shine on defense. Foreman and Haney led North in offense and defense as the battle features costly fumbles and late drives.
A group of Burlington shop foremen from Aurora Illinois arrived to spend the day inspecting local Plattsmouth shops under William Baird’s management. Plattsmouth officials will visit Aurora this evening on No 2 to study methods and coordination between the shops.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cappell of this city depart Sunday for San Diego and other points in California and the west. They will stay with Mr. and Mrs. William Bell in San Diego and visit another relative. The trip will last about a month as they tour leading western cities.
University of Nebraska will host an ancient Anglo Saxon hare and hound chase starting October 4 as part of a broad athletics for everyone plan. Two hares drop paper scent along a three to five mile route with individual and team scoring under coach Henry F Schulte.
The annual Nebraska Methodist conference at Omaha concluded with pastor appointments. Rev H E Sorter will remain at the local church for another year, praised for growth in membership and young peoples work. Other Cass county assignments included Weeping Water, Nehawka, Louisville, and Alvo pastors, plus Rev John Calvert at York Mothers Jewels Home and Rev Frank Emory Proutz to Fremont First Church.
The sheriff Bert Reed and Deputy W R Young began mailing remaining delinquent personal tax notices after county treasurer handed them for collection. Law makes the sheriff enforce distress warrants and issue notices as courtesy to delinquents to settle or face property seizure to satisfy county claims. The sheriff’s office will levy on property if there is no prompt response, so recipients should seek settlement promptly.
Sheriff notified that Lester Saunders of Falls City disappeared Saturday evening. A WWI veteran gas exposure left him with memory lapses and uncertain actions. Family says he often spoke of going to Louisville, where Cass County officials will search.
Miss Selma Schliefert wed William F. Lau at the Evangelical Lutheran church near Louisville with Rev. Hartman officiating. The ceremony featured a rose and orchid theme, a twelve guest reception, and a dinner at the bride’s parents home.
Mrs Elvira Elliott Ozbun marks her 90th birthday living part of each year with daughter Mrs M S Briggs in Plattsmouth and visiting family in Indiana and Ola. Born September 27 1837 in Indiana near South Bend she has witnessed U S history from Martin Van Buren to Calvin Coolidge and many presidential changes.
Daily report says Judge William Weber’s condition remains quite poor with kidney illness. He has periods of improvement followed by relapses, causing his family anxiety, though friends hope he may rally and resume duties.
The Plattsmouth Ad Club will judge and award prizes for the five best ears of corn. County Agent L R Enipes will lead judging, with a 10 p m Saturday deadline for entries. Judges will be practical farmers from unblasted citizens to ensure fair grading and representation from across the county.
Rain in recent days leaves dirt streets hard to travel as trucks and cars cut and scatter mud. City efforts to grade and improve streets for winter face setbacks and rising costs.

The Philathea class of First Methodist met at Mrs. H. H. Howather’s home on North 5th street with Mrs. E. G. Shallenberger assisting. They planned rally day activities for next Sunday and enjoyed games, a proverb contest won by Mrs. Otto Keck, and Bible quotations won by C. C. Wescott, plus a short radio music program and refreshments.
Sherif Bert Reed collected two of the finest ears of corn seen this season at the Ray Campbell home in Rock Bluffs. The large white variety weighs one pound three quarters and one pound ten ounces, with frost expected to help the crop.
The twelve year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Spicer was located last night at the Washington avenue home of the Kunsmanns after deputies followed up on tips. She had been staying with the Owens family in the city and had not informed her parents of her whereabouts. The girl is back home and safe.
