Koupal Explains Nebraska Retail Bills To Ad Club

Lincoln lobbyist R V Koupal spoke at the Plattsmouth Ad club luncheon detailing bills 131 137 and related acts. He described the fair trades act protecting small merchants and the 6 percent minimum below cost rule while noting enforcement by county attorneys and the attorney general plus Miller Tydings. Senator Carsten Haycock and Diers spoke on sponsor roles and asked questions followed by discussion of impact on local merchants.

Arn announces engagement of Marjorie Arn to Walter Speece

Mr and Mrs W T Arn announce the engagement and coming marriage of their daughter Marjorie to Walter C Speece of Edison Nebraska. Speece is Edison High School coach and math teacher, son of A L Speece of York Nebraska. Miss Arn is Plattsmouth High School graduate and Peru Teachers College alumna who has taught music and grades five and six at Alvo Public School. The wedding is planned at the Arn home in early July.

Many Pay Tribute to Emil Hobscheidt at Last Rites

The community gathers at St. John’s Catholic church to honor Emil Michael Hobscheidt who died young. Rt Rev Monsignor George Acius leads the requiem Mass while the St. John’s choir performs with soloist John Cloidt. Officers Find Abandoned 1936 Ford During City Patrol

Iowa car patrol officers picked up a 1936 US Ford on Eighth Street after reports of prowlers. The gas plug had been removed and a small gasoline spill suggested tampering. Registered to R. N. Kahler of Carter Lake Iowa with license 78 8152 the vehicle was towed to city hall in hopes the owner can be located.

Will Appeal Nebraska Case Frank Harmer

An appeal to the state supreme court is filed in the case State of Nebraska versus Frank Harmer. The transcript was prepared in the district court clerk’s office. Harmer was convicted by a jury in February of breaking and entering and under the habitual criminal statute. Co. E. Walsh of Omaha represents the defendant.

Daltiy Plattsmouth aerie 265 held its annual officer election last evening with a large turnout. Ancient cache uncovered near rifle range north of city

William Bishop an Omaha archeologist revealed a mound cache containing relics possibly predating local Indians. Items include a pink jade figure a clay pipe a kettle handle a bone needle a four bladed flint knife and distinct arrow heads. Finds sent to Omaha for expert study.

Uncle Billie Warner Celebrates 90th Birthday in Lincoln

William Henry Warner known as Uncle Billie, born May 16 1847 in Tatwell county Illinois, lived in Alvo David City Plattsmouth and settled in Alvo. His niece Mrs Ed Hall brought him to Lincoln for a birthday celebration at Frank Warner’s home. Warner never married and has many friends.

Divorce Action Filed in District Court

In the clerk of the district court office Hallie V Marshall sues Adam Marshall for divorce on cruelty grounds. Married June 30 1922 the petition asks for a restraining order to keep the defendant off the plaintiff's property and for payment of court costs.

Sells Store Building On South Sixth Street

Attorney John M. Leyda for John J. Tooley sells the vacant double store building on South Sixth Street to Robert A. Cappell for $2,000. The purchaser agrees to pay part of the 1926 taxes and plans to renovate the site on Highway No. 75 into a desirable business location.

Longtime Cass County Farmer Remembers Early Plattsmouth

George Lloyd a Cass County resident since 1870 recalls early life near Murray and Three Groves. He recalls ferry travel to Plattsmouth, hand planting corn, kerosene light versus tallow candles, and the Lloyd family as long-time readers of local papers.

Friends from Louisville gathered at the couple's new home near Plattsmouth last Friday evening. They gave a card table and the gathering featured pinochle, baskets of refreshments, and a late lunch. Seed Corn Stolen From John Adkins Farm

Sheriff Homer Sylvester was notified today of the theft of two bushels of seed corn from the John Adkins farm south of this city. The family had about twelve bushes of corn saved for seed this year and on visiting the storage place it was found that part of the stock was missing.

Judge Wilson holds district court session with motions

Judge W. W. Wilson of Nebraska City presided over a district court session today. A large number of motions were presented and arguments offered for new trials in several cases from the recent jury term. Out of town attorneys included William F. Matschallat of Lincoln, Guy L. Clements of Elmwood, and Lloyd B. Peterson of Nebraska City.

Cass County declares war on grasshoppers

Cass County moves to combat a grasshopper infestation with expanded bait purchases. Farm Bureau members from all precincts join to mix poison bran at Nehawka Sheldon plant with early applications starting May 18, combat timing tied to hatching eggs and cool weather.
