A poem dedicated to the 1st Presbyterian Church of Plattemouth Nebraska on its 76th anniversary jubilees. The hymn praises the early saints, faith, sacrifice, and commitment to the church, ending with a pledge of devotion and prayers for blessing and peace.
The First Presbyterian church celebrated a diamond jubilee marking 75 years in the community. Events included two weeks of services, a Wednesday program, and a Friday birthday party. About 150 new members joined, aided by a committee led by H. A. Schneider and L. O. Minor. Rev. H. G. McClusky headed the jubilee week program. Sunday morning featured a musical service with the mixed quartet Cora Williams Mrs. Jack Figley Frank A. Cloidt and Jack Figley and a sermon by Dr. Larimore C. Denise of the Omaha Theological Seminary. An evening sacred concert highlighted the celebration. The program included choirs, solos by Mrs. Jack Figley and a trio with Mrs. Figley Mrs. Catherine Burdie and Miss Williams. The sermon titled The Ministry of Music spoke to music’s role in worship.
Teresa Libershal is on an enforced home vacation due to a foot infection that developed into blood poisoning. Her condition has improved and she is expected to return to school in a few days. Lea Lenger filled her Parmers Fairs substitute role in Beatrice last week.
About 300 reserve officers gathered along the Platte river to practice river crossing against the Red force occupying the south bank and nearby hills. The Blue forces used a smoke screen and pontoon bridges to move infantry artillery and machine guns while cavalry swam across. Umpires, regular army officers, declared a Blue victory and drove the Reds three miles southwest of Plattsmouth. Notables included Col. L. J. Crosby Col. P. L. Hall and Col. Oscar Engler.
Mrs Evers planned a Saturday surprise as she postponed a business trip to Ashland. Friends entered singing and presented Mr Evers a large chair. The event featured contests, a Bible Lotito prize, a jig saw puzzle win, and a May basket luncheon before the guests departed with wishes for many happy returns.
Sunday evening on highway 75 north of the city the car driven by James Farnham overturned in loose gravel. C A Rosencrans was thrown against the door glass, suffering scalp wounds and requiring medical aid. Farnham was shaken but escaped with minor injuries.
Sheriff Homer Sylvester and deputies captured three men Ray Simpkins John Duel and H G Zeigler after a Burlington agent’s pistol was found on one suspect. The trio claimed self defense but await Iowa authorities for trial on charges tied to the railroad incident near Pacific Junction Plattsmouth and the Missouri river bridge.
The Red Sox dropped their season opener 16 to 0 against Omaha colored champions Cudahy Rex. Pitching was by Del Sylvester and Harry Newman with Hopkins unavailable. Alex Schlische led Sox in hitting. Murray team plans to find an opponent for next Sunday by week’s end.
Deily Rex Young a well known Nebraska auctioneer leaves for Prague to officiate today at a hotel property sale. He reports handling a Grunder dairy Holstein cattle sale in Nebraska City on Saturday where top cattle brought 61 dollars and all under yearlings brought at least 16 dollars.
A rotogravure feature in the Omaha World-Herald shows Vesetta Robertson among DAR Congress pages. The Omaha girl, chosen to serve, enjoyed a pleasant experience and the jovial moments captured in photos.

Twenty one members of the Missouri River Fishermen's Protective Association met at the Swedish Auditorium in Omaha for their monthly assembly and annual officers election. W H Bledge of Plattsmouth was reappointed president with Edgerton Kin namon Coffin and others re-elected to key posts. Andrew Bouday of Omaha elected sergeant at arms as the group outlined goals for state protections and watershed reforms.
The sodalities of St. John's church and Holy Rosary church held a joint communion at 7:30 mass followed by a breakfast at the Knights of Columbus hall. Miss Antonia Vanek gave the welcome, Genevieve Whelan delivered the response, and blue and white decor framed the event.
John Hiber, a long time city resident, spent Sunday up and around for the first time in weeks. He had suffered ulcers and a hemorrhage, kept bedridden under treatment, but has made a nice recovery and is now able to look after his usual activities.
The community mourns the death of Mrs. August W. Cloidt aged 41 born Pearl Moore in King City Missouri. Survived by husband three children Nadine Patricia Billy mother Adah Moore two brothers A O Moore W W Moore and four sisters Mrs Tunnell Shenandoah Mrs Jones Shenandoah Mrs Wohlfarth and Mrs Lushinsky.
The local Rotary club held a Mother's Day program during its weekly luncheon led by Rev. H. G. McClusky. R. Foster Patterson, Plattsmouth High principal and noted orator, gave a tribute to mothers while Mrs. L. O. Minor attended as a typical mother. The event featured songs by club members and a pleasant social period after dinner.
Mrs. A. H. Duxbury and Mrs. Henry F. Nolting attend the grand chapter of the O E S of Nebraska in Lincoln. The first day featured a banquet with 500 Star members. Sessions continue through Saturday.
Mrs. Frank Mullen and Mrs. Fred I Rea from this city attend the state convention of the Catholic Daughters of America in Hastings. Mrs. Mullen serves as state grand monitor and Mrs. Rea as regent of the Plattsmouth court. Representatives from all parts of Nebraska converge for several days of sessions.
Miss Menota Leamy of the Norfolk Packing Co returns from a brief vacation. She spent most of the break at her home in Pierce Nebraska and also visited several cities in that part of the state before resuming duties Sunday evening.
Voters met at the Presbyterian church to decide on a new four room brick veneer school replacing the December fire. Architect Everett Dodds outlined plans for a structure serving grades and a tenth grade high school with insurance funds and a small surplus covering costs, avoiding bonds. Committee includes Board of Education members and George E. Nickles and O. A. Davis.
Tuesday report states Frank A. Rebal third ward councilman suffered a severe injury Monday at BREX shops. While climbing a box car he fell gashing his right heel fracturing two toes and spraining his left ankle. He remains home for weeks with X rays to assess damage in Omaha.
At St Catherine's hospital in Omaha Mrs Frances Sedlacek Koubek now welcomes a ten pound son to Mr and Mrs Frank Koubek of the city. Both mother and child are reported well. This is the couple's first child and makes Mr and Mrs Adolph Koubek grandparents for the first time.
The senior class of the high school staged Believe It or Not at the Platz theatre last evening to a large delighted audience. Cast members included Emily Lorenz as Harriett Follis and William Wetenkamp as Uncle Silas with a supporting group delivering lively comedy and clever character work.
Pioneer settler A B Carter died at his daughter's home in Gordon Nebraska and will be brought to Louisville for funeral services at Riverview cemetery. George Carter of Louisville is one of his sons.
