Farm reports sixty chickens stolen from Troy Murdoch’s Nehawka area farm on Wednesday night. Sheriff Reed urges rural residents to help trap suspects by early warning calls and to avoid lighting up houses or aiding the thieves, to enable a clean capture if possible.
The Parmele theatre hosts a two night minstrel on April 1 and 2 featuring fourteen blackface performers directed by Miss Martha Gorder. A moving picture, The Return of Sherlock Holmes, opens at 7:30 followed by the show. Tickets are on sale via club members.
The honor roll honors students with three or more A grades. Seniors list Evangeline Craig to Mary Swatek, Juniors Riene De Les Dernier to Vestetta Robertson, Sophomores Matge Garnet to Eleanor Smetana, Freshmen Geo Adam to Floyd Shanholz. All classes rose except Sophomores. Seniors led, Freshmen second.
Mrs Henry C McMahen hosted a Thursday 50 tea at Coronado apartments for Mrs S W Bell who departs for Fremont to establish a new home. Bridge club members enjoyed the game with Mrs Finke winning first prize and Mrs L W Egenberger second. Mrs Bell received the guest prize, a fine keepsake.
Mr and Mrs Thomas Svobod and son Tom and Mrs Joseph Hiber Sr visited Omaha to see their old friend and former Plattsmouth resident John E Nemetz who has been ill for three years. The gathering marked Nemetz birthday as friends from Plattsmouth and Omaha joined in a cheerful tribute to the guest. Nemetz formerly ran a candy store here and later served as deputy in the county treasurer and later worked as clerk in Douglas County treasurer's office before illness ended his activities.
The 1930 census begins April 2 across Cass County with enumerators listed for each precinct. Public cooperation is urged to aid accurate listing of residents, crucial for local government planning and representation.
City residents organize graveling efforts on Thirteenth Street from Main to Pearl and east on Pearl toward County Judge A H Duxbury’s home. They hope to extend gravel on Pearl to 14th and down to Marble for an all season route, with residents paying the freight. A half block of gravel is also set for North Tenth Street from Main to Vine, plus the adjacent alley where garages sit.
A pile of about 125 railroad ties along the Burlington tracks in the north railroad yards caught fire at 2 30 this afternoon. Black smoke rose as residents feared a major blaze. The fire department arrived but could do little since water access was poor.
The Plattsmouth district of Iowa Nebraska Light and Power Co held a banquet at the American Legion building to promote Safety First. Edward Kennedy of Lincoln led the program urging use of precautions and safety devices to prevent injuries and losses. Demonstrations by a safety team covered first aid and accident response.
A grainy reel presentation displayed scenes of the Shenandoah explosion along with other accidents and injuries from the company’s past years, giving the audience a vivid sense of what an accident means to workers and the firm.
Mrs John G Lohnes has been in poor health this winter due to a severe cold that undermined her vitality. Confined to home for three weeks after a general breakdown, many friends regret her illness and hope she will soon be active again.

The meeting weighed consolidating Nemaha with the Cornhusker area in Lincoln but declined the plan for now and kept Nemaha in the southeastern Nebraska district.
Bobbie Beal youngest son of Mrs. Golda Noble Wiles clerk of the district court lies at home on the farm southwest of the city with pneumonia threats and anxiety among relatives as his condition shows slight improvement.
A birthday gathering hosted by Mrs. W. H. Cocelt at a home six miles northwest of Plattsmouth featured games such as an old fashioned spelling contest won by Mrs. Floy Hardison and George Winscott. A luncheon was shared and many neighbors attended including the Coffelt family and notable locals.
T M Patterson of Omaha, Bankers Life Insurance representative, arrived in the city with the company's check to settle the death claim of Clifford McQuinn, who died in an auto accident at Union last Thursday night. The policy carried two thousand dollars with double indemnity, and the McQuinn estate will receive about three thousand nine hundred dollars in full settlement.
This morning two quiet title suits were filed in district court. Nellie E. Topliff v James Hoffman et al and Vern Urwin v Minnie Urwin et al appear with attorney W A Robertson representing the plaintiffs in both cases.
Saturday's crash occurred as a McMahen truck hauling gravel and a Ford coupe collided at a sunlit corner west of the city. Charles Lamphere rescued the dazed coupe driver Holcomb after the impact. the injured man was cared for at his brother in law Arthur Sampson's home.
William F. Evers a leading member of Nebraska Chapter No 3 Royal Arch Masons and former head of Plattsmouth lodge No 6 Mt Zion Commandery No 5 Knights Templar has been chosen as grand representative of Mississippi at the Nebraska grand chapter. He also serves as superintendent of the Nebraska Masonic Home and is noted for extensive service to the fraternity across the state.
Ralph Mason, a student at the State Teacher's College at Peru, celebrated his twenty first birthday with a party hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Sprecher. Mrs. W. H. Mason assisted with serving and the evening featured games, cards, gifts, and refreshments for attendees including Florence Nelson, Vivian Lightbody, Eleanor Swatek, Germaine Mason, George Sayles, William Nelson, Robert Fitch, Bernard Galloway, and several others.
Attendance check for the third quarter shows sophomores with 70 students and 33 perfect attendances, 47 percent. Seniors follow with 60 students and 28 perfect attendances, 48 percent. Freshmen total 68 with 26 perfect, 38 percent. Juniors enroll 68 with 19 perfect, 28 percent.
Judge Charles L Graves heard a south city case in which a woman attacked another lady. Chief Libershal served the warrant and the guilty plea resulted in a fine of 10 dollars plus costs totaling 13 dollars 50 cents.
Plattsmouth High School students dominated the Sub-District Declamatory Contest at Auburn with Robert Livingston winning Extemporaneous, Herschel Dew top in Humorous, and Charles Nowacek and Margaret Shellenbarger placing in Oratory and Dramatic. Margaret Leidth won Oratory for Nebraska City. Lila Codington took Dramatic for Auburn.
Mrs E J Ringwood of Minneapolis formerly Miss Laura Puls of Murray arrived yesterday by auto. She brought along her mother Mrs William Puls who has spent the winter at Minneapolis with the daughter and family.
