Building the New County Jail Vote Call

Local sportsmen seek to form a boat and gun club along the Missouri River. The plan calls for a small monthly fine to fund a bungalow near the southeast bridge for storage and gathering, inviting boaters and hunters to enjoy riverfront recreation and communal facilities.

Old Fashioned Dance Delight at Red Men Hall

Friday's Daily reports a large crowd enjoyed an old-fashioned dance at the Red Men hall with violin and guitar tunes. Henry Rothman and Frank Grant called the dances in a musical voice, Ross Collins and Will Rinker provided the music, and attendees looked forward to the next organization event next month.

Superintendent Brooks Returns to Duties After Illness

Superintendent of Schools W.4 Brooks returned to his duties this morning after several days' confinement at home with a severe case of tonsillitis. The illness has been prevalent in the city, and Brooks had to leave his office Tuesday morning. He is now recovering and able to sit out.

Meeting of Firet Presbyterian Church at Elby

The Firet Presbyterian Church congregation held its yearly meeting Wednesday evening in Elby. Officers for the coming year were elected: Trustees C Parmele DOC Morgan T Hi Pollock. treasurer J Pollok. Sunday school superintendent OC A Haws. chorister Miss Mathilde Vallerys. organist Miss Blanche Sayles. assistant superintendent James Robertson. Reports praised finances and membership gains. Pastor Hey M W Lorimer noted improvements since arrival. Sunday school reorganized on a graded basis to aid teachers and attendees.

Storm West of Union Leaves Farms Damaged

Dr. W Foster visited Union and Mary E Foster reports a severe Sunday storm west of Union caused heavy farm losses, especially the Alford farm family who lost their mother. The tornado veered north, sparing Union itself from worse destruction and avoiding fatalities.

Remains of Mrs. Alice Tague Brought Here for Burial

The body of Mrs. Alice Tague was brought from Lincoln to Oak Hill cemetery for a prayer service by the Methodist Church. A former resident, she lived in this city before being sent to Lincoln six years ago for mental treatment and did not regain health. She leaves five sons, including Otto Tague of Omaha and Fred Tague of Lincoln, who accompanied the procession.

Death of Mack D. Towner Former Gas Co Citizen

Mack D. Towner, a former Cass County resident and son of Rev. Abraham Towner, died in Los Angeles California on March 22 after a long illness. He spent early years in Cass County and was known to many older residents. He was brother to Mrs. William Gilmour. A full life sketch will follow in these columns.

New Burlington Station Construction Advances

Work on the Burlington passenger station progresses with excavations for a furnace room and a new side track to be built from the Anheuser Busch and Krug Brewing warehouses. Poor weather slowed foundations but crews push ahead. a modern heating plant will be installed at the depot at substantial cost.

The Mlnllsmouth Players' club will present Princess Chrysanthemum at Parmele theater on Wednesday April 2 and donate part of the proceeds to storm victims in Omaha. The club has a history of giving a portion of all entertainments to charitable causes and will extend this practice to aid Omaha's needy.

Preparing to Save His Fruit From Frost

J C Peterson of this city with a large orchard plans to burn crude oil in containers among trees to ward off frost in April and May. He has built a cistern to store the oil and cites California practice as effective for protecting buds and crops from cold weather.

Nebraska Crop Values Rise Sharply in Eight-Year Span

The State Board of Agriculture notes Nebraska farm values climbed in eight years since 1900 census. Corn up 14 percent, wheat 20 percent, potatoes 82 percent, hay 164 percent, horses 155 percent. Dairy cattle up 20 percent, cattle value 70 percent, total farm property up 178 percent. Nebraska now second in per capita farm property value.

Passing of Mack O Towner in California

In Los Angeles on March 22 Mack Db Towner, early Nebraska settler and son of Rev. Abraha Towner, died. He served in the Civil War with the Second Nebraska Cavalry and later operated general merchandise in Butter County near Ulysses before moving to California about five years ago. He leaves brothers and sisters in Nebraska Iowa and Missouri.

Funeral for Miss Blanche Murray Tomorrow

Funeral services for Miss Blanche Murray will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from her North Eighth street home. Rev. W L Austin of the First Methodist church will conduct the service and interment will follow at Oak Hill cemetery. The body arrived this morning and was taken to the mother's home, Mrs John A Murray, for the funeral.
