Historic Pawnee Sioux Peace Council linked to Nehawka cannon tale
The Nehawka Register recounts a visit by S. T. Darrow and wife to W. R. Davis’s family at the depot. They noted the Freemont Burlington work to control the Platte river channel and a stone commemorating the May 25, 1855 Pawnee council. The tale traces the old twelve-pounder cannon from Westport to Nebraska, its journeys through Papillion and Springfield, and the so called cannon war between Plattsmouth and Nehawka.
