Safer Crossing Plans Considered After Tragedy at Alvo Station

After a rail crossing tragedy near Alvo station, the railway company and city officials discuss safer options. A viaduct on main street could span tracks and link to the highway, while another plan would close one crossing near the Rehmeier elevator and install electric signals. Closing the north crossing shifts traffic toward Omaha and stockyards, while closing the south could worsen elevator congestion during grain deliveries. The city board is weighing these proposals.
