Kansas outlines a program to help wage earners economize on food. Prof Hailey urges rules to reduce waste and optimize nutrition. The plan includes domestic science in high schools, movable schools in towns, and statewide food thrift lectures to curb waste and raise value.
Havelock shops will soon begin construction of five Class G switch engines for the Burlington system west of the Missouri river. The engines, second largest in service with 28 200 pounds tractive power, reflect improved pulling force over 25 years and promise lower cost and longer life.
The Howells Journal praises ACG Shallenberger as a farsighted leader whose policies endure. It notes his early push for the bank guarantee law and the popular 8 o'clock closing law, signed as governor, arguing he will be useful in the United States senate as he was in the governor chair.
James Hunter and his son Robert left this afternoon for Hitchcock South Dakota to visit Mr Hunter's daughter for a few days. They will return with Mrs Hunter and the children next week.
The board of county commissioners completed equalization duties and will meet again in a week to review bids for county bridge construction. They consider a Cass and Lancaster county road straightenings and arrange a joint meeting between the two boards, chaired by Chairman Friedrich.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Johnson visited their son Frank Johnson near Weeping Water. Frank joined them Thursday and returned Sunday morning. Mel and Mrs. Johnson live on the Walker north of Weeping Water, where a new residence and improvements mark their stable prospects. Crops look good across the county, signaling prosperity.
G A Rhoden of Right Mile Grove precinct visited his parents George W Rhoden and wife for a short time today and checked on a few business items.
Ed Hynott lowered the motorcycle record from Omaha to Plattsmouth to five minutes of actual running yesterday. Bad finished in 65 minutes but stopped ten minutes at La Platte due to two tire punctures. From Omaha to La Platte took 35 minutes with city speed limits observed. He expects to beat yesterday's time when road conditions improve.
In Cass County near Eight Mile Grove a grove of cottonwood trees on Jacob Tritsch’s farm east of the old Livingston ranch grew from plantings begun by Judge Basil S Ramsey about 1860. Planted from sprouts and tended for 43 years the trees now supply timber for a barn. Ramsey also planted an orchard and walnuts that bear fruit yearly. The farm later passed to Tritsch in 1889 amid further improvements.
M Wignell superintendent of the Lincoln division of the Burlington says crops east of Chicago look poor while those west of the city show promise. After traveling to New York he notes eastern crops would starve people if relied on them, and says Nebraska farming is where crops thrive.
W. C. James of Omaha and 8 DPD, Woodley of Lincoln, are in the city handling Modern Woodmen interests and organizing a class for the dedication ceremony of the new Woodman building when finished.
A morning wedding at Holy Rosary Catholic Church united Joseph Sedlak and Hermia Kalasek with Father John Vicek officiating. Attendants included Celia Kalasek and Clara Junda. James Sedlak and J Kalasek served as groomsmen. A reception and wedding dinner followed at the bride’s mother Mrs. Joseph Kalasek home, with many relatives in attendance and well wishes from Miallsmouth friends.
Last night Miss Anna O'Brien, living with Mrs Woeckbach, was treat of a linen shower before her upcoming marriage. Guests included Albin Svoboda Teresa Hempel Helen Spies and several others. Prizes and refreshments followed games and merriment as the party ended with happy goodbyes.
Charles Johnson and his wife travel from near Louisville to the county seat to handle business. Once a Plattsmouth resident and Riley barber shop proprietor, he now farms. He notes wheat likely to yield better than expected but straw is short, making harvest difficult. oats look good while cold weather hurts corn.
Monday’s Daily reports Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Kypings welcomed a daughter last night. The parents are proud and the baby is thriving. The Juvenal wishes the youngster many years of happiness and mischief at home.
A large company of children gathered at Ruth Moffel’s home to celebrate her tenth birthday. Guests enjoyed a peanut hunt, games, and a birthday witcheon with brick ice cream cake lemonade and candies. Helpers included Adelina Sayles Clara Morgan Helen Wesholl Mason Weecott Gary Wil Hill Martin Frances Martin Walter Martin Dorotha Peters Fern Thompson and several others.
Judge Beeson issued marriage licenses for Harry Baughman and Mabel Kline and for Earl Kline and Mrs Baughman. A double wedding occurred today. The Baughmans live ten miles west of Plattsmouth and the Klines west of Murray.
In county court yesterday the last will and testament of John Wolpert of near Manley was offered for probate. Joseph Wolpert, a son, attended with Thomas Akeson, one of the witnesses to the execution. Final settlement and decree of distribution and heirship findings were entered for the estate of Mrs. Anna Schneider, deceased.
From Monday's Daily, No. 6 pulled away from the station this morning the express man displayed Roosevelt's big stick. It had been started from Lincoln and traveled with the Lincoln contingent to the Chicago convention, all lagged and prepaid to the convention hall.
George Stants a senior clerk at the post office celebrated his sixty second birthday on June 47 1042. He received a generous supply of socks and handkerchiefs as a playful reminder that in the future he should keep his feet and nose clean.
A pretty home wedding occurred Wednesday June 19 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. BE M. Godwin when their daughter Mollye married John Shurigar of Kenesaw Nebraska. Rev. A L Zink read the ceremony. The couple plans to reside near Kenesaw after a short honeymoon.
Tuesday's Daily notes Sarpy county commissioners Joseph Pilug Jacob Sass and James Ely with County Surveyor H. J D Patterson and County Clerk Will Patterson visiting to inspect the new road to Pollock Dull bridge over the Platte. They pledged continued work to improve the South Omaha to river route, with two gangs at work and the bridge approach nearing quality status. May the good roads movement grow.
Workmen advance on the M W A building with second story plastering finished and lower walls well along. Windows installed carpenters finish work soon with a push to complete. A committee with J Varga traveled to Omaha to select elegant electric light fixtures for installation.
Miss Mathilda Vallery entertained yesterday afternoon with a bridge whist party honoring Mrs. Adams of Boise Idaho and Mrs. Lewis Vallery of Fort Worth Texas. Four tables competed with Miss Min Gering winning the points prize. A no course luncheon followed.
Ealt Wolk of McGlain Nebraska arrived last night on No 14 and will visit the Jacob Tritsch and M L Friedrich homes and other relatives in the vicinity.
