New Road Along Missouri River Barges Toward Completion

Work begins on a new elevated road along the sand bar from Main Street to the ferry below the Burlington bridge. The route follows the old ferry road then extends east to the river chute before turning south along a ridge to join the bluff road. County Surveyor Patterson marks high points to avoid low ground and sewer outlets, with a bridge planned near Happy Hollow to carry waters safely. The project, aimed at a year round route to Plattsmouth and Iowa trade, uses a bank and grader to rapidly form the grade and hopes to finish soon.
