Farmers State Bank completes moving its safes and records from the old vault to new heavy steel and concrete vaults. The old 1918 vault was demolished after the Modern Construction Co. finished the fireproof burglar proof vaults. A larger customer vault and a rear room for conferences and director meetings will serve patrons seeking documents.
E H Douglas led with 232 points and earned expert rifleman for a second time while Dr R P Westover scored 210, John Palacek 177, and C L Pitman 184. New Springfield rifles used for first time. seven new members joined the event.
The eighth birthday of Miss Marjorie Ann Tidball was celebrated at the Tidball home on Mordar's Dairy lawn. About thirty children enjoyed games and a luncheon under the grape arbor while Mrs. Tidball and her daughters Ruth and Jean assisted.
Yesterday afternoon Charles 5 Sherman and his wife visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Troop. Sherman, known as Cy Sherman of the Lincoln Star, is a nationally recognized sports authority and called on Henry R. Gering, who is still confined to bed but showing improvement after weeks of illness.
A note announces the journal office prints a variety of business stationery items. The item list emphasizes custom printing services for clients seeking letterheads envelopes and forms produced in house.
Yesterday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wynn and Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Rosencrans traveled to Lincoln and enjoyed Capital Beach attractions. Clare Rosencrans reportedly fell in the Crazy House injuring his arm. Mrs. Hoosencrans bandaged him and the outing continued though he will avoid future Capital Beach trips.
A four passenger Stude baker coupe stolen from a private Aurora garage Thursday night was found abandoned near South Bend. Deputies Rex Young and Thomas Svoboda guarded the car through Saturday night. By Sunday noon the owner claimed the vehicle from Sheriff Bert Reed. The mystery remains why the new expensive car was abandoned in the Bend.
Residents in the area between Tth and Sth streets near Marble and Rock streets report nightly visits by a window gazer. Police were alerted after a Gorder residence sighting but the intruder fled. Neighborhoods remain on edge as vigilance increases and residents announce their presence at homes.
Richard H. Kiger owner of Estage in Springfield Neb died at home early this morning at 62. Funeral plans were not set by Brewer Funeral Home. He left a wife three daughters Ethel Helen and Mrs Harry Platte of Plattsmouth and three sons Roy John and Richard all at home. He had one brother Frank and three sisters Mesdames A Chizum W P Lininger and Roy Fairley, all of Council Bluffs.
Stuart Porter son of Mr and Mrs Ernest Porter injures the big toe of his right foot while sawing wood barefooted. The saw teeth cut a deep gash before the toe was freed. A physician dressed the wound and the boy can move about though she feels the impact strongly.
Fort Crook leads the Biart loop by beating the Platters 11 to 7. Key moments include Bacon’s three bagger, Newman and Reichart big hits, and an eventful seventh inning with disputed calls and four Platters errors. Fort Crook extends top position as Platters slip.
Mrs. Robert M. Walling left Methodist hospital in Omaha after ten days. She went to the home of Mrs. Thomas Walling to rest and is expected to be brought home Tuesday. Her recovery is progressing well and may be complete within a few days.
James Mauzy the druggist resumes his usual activities after several days at home due to illness. He still bears lingering marks of the ailment but has improved enough to return to work.
Helen Lenz and Joe Peska, both of Omaha, were married quietly at the Presbyterian manse Tuesday afternoon. The couple will live in Omaha, and the bride, a Plattsmouth native, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Pilmey, Sr. The groom is a respected Omaha businessman.
Kenneth Katterson resigns from Plattsmouth State Bank after two years as clerk and moves Sunday to Gothenburg Nebraska to become assistant cashier at the First State Bank. The Gothenburg bank is led by vice president W M Stebbins. Plattsmouth bank will not fill the vacancy immediately as staff adjustments are decided.
Miss Delores Wiles of the University of Nebraska college of medicine nurse school is home briefly with her parents west of the city. She is in her second year and works at the University hospital, enjoying the nursing vocation. She is a Plattsmouth high school graduate and has spent two years in nurse training.
Monday saw Albert Young of near Murray in the city while en route home from Omaha with Gus Splitt a local resident. Splitt was taken to Omaha for an eye examination where a growth on an eyelid was found and surgery planned. He is receiving treatment in preparation for the operation.
Yesterday Mr and Mrs Frank Rebal hosted a pleasant family dinner honoring relatives and friends including Mr and Mrs Charles Kopp of Chicago Robert Hayek of St Louis and Miss Josephine Rebal of Omaha. Out of town guests were Miss Theresa Totzauer Miss Helen Leisner and the guests of honor Mr and Mrs Kopp Mr Hayek and Miss Rebal.
Friends in this city regret to learn that Mrs. Leland Briggs formerly Miss Lillian Hartwick suffered a fracture of her right arm a few days ago. She is now progressing nicely and on the road to recovery in Winner South Dakota.
Harold Renner found guilty of assault on his wife Mrs. Ora Renner in a county court trial before Judge A. H. Duxbury. The verdict cited that a severe attack was not required for assault and battery, with a $100 fine and costs or 60 days in jail as the sentence.
Kenneth Vandervoort of Plattsmouth wed Alma Wier of Nebraska City in a simple surprise ceremony at Glenwood Iowa on a Saturday afternoon. The couple, now residing in Plattsmouth, plan their future together as friends extend well wishes.
Miss Mathilde Soennichsen of this city, buyer for H. M. Soennichsen Co, tours the east with Miss Martha Jepson of Omaha. They visit Chicago and New York trading centers and view latest fall and winter offerings. Stock for Cass county’s largest store arrives with selections chosen by Miss Soennichsen.
Mrs. Knofficek hosted a Sunday party for seventeen friends at the country home in the north part of the city. Guests included Mesdames Svoboda Janda Jelinek Nowacek and others, who enjoyed visiting and a dainty repast.
Fire Chief Sandin reports Plattsmouth’s volunteer department with seven fires causing only 105 dollars loss and operating costs of 257.66 dollars. The city’s cleanup campaigns reduce fire risks and staff mainly from downtown residents provide quick response. The main half year loss was 65 dollars from a Main hotel blaze, the largest of the period.
A Mississippi flood family moved north after losing nearly all possessions except an old auto, rescued by Black refugees during levee breaks. They describe vast river sands, buried farms, and bodies found in trees as they journey to Waterbury with Red Cross aid.
Mrs. C A Young and her son Billy have left Daytona Ohio after visiting the Seybert family in Dayton. They were joined by Mrs. C A Marshall Jr and Cary who will visit Dayton briefly. En route they will stop in Fort Wayne Indiana to visit Mrs. E H Sterrett and family.
