Western Union Loses Again in Dodge County Valuation Case
The Nebraska supreme court reaffirmed the district court's Dodge county valuation of Western Union Telegraph property at 40500 dollars or 54 dollars per wire mile. The ruling sets a precedent for railroad rate cases, holding that net annual earnings and district message traffic alone do not determine value, and that burden of proof lies with the Western Union. The decision echoes arguments about state business versus interstate transmission. Lincoln News.
