City leaders and business men press for transforming Washington Avenue park into a finished recreation space. Plan calls for seating, walks, and cleanup with a civic day urging all residents to help. Edward Ripple Park proposed to honor Plattsmouth’s first World War fallen.
Mrs Be inberger hosted neighbors and friends for a charming picnic supper on the Esenberger lawn on Vine street. The evening closed with a hand concert after the meal. Attendees included Mrs Henry Egenberger, Miss Geraldine Olson, Mr and Mrs L W Egenberger, Opal Fitzgerald, Jeanette Weber, Helen Egenberger, Margaret Scotten, Mary Clark, Helen Egenberger, and Betty Ptak.
Journal field man reports diverse yields from Cass County farms. Average wheat around twenty bushels per acre with standout gains noted at Andrew Stander’s farm between Louisville and Murdock yielding 24 to 25 bushels per acre. Henry Borneneler’s 25 acre field near Murdock produced 1,008 bushels total or 42.18 bushels per acre.
Dispatches from Washington report Mrs Harriett McCauley of this city granted a pension of 30 dollars per month by the pension department. She is the widow of the late William McCauley noted for his Civil War service in the Union army.
In a district court ruling dated Thursday the divorce decree was granted to Ervin L. Barnard from Frances V. Barnard on cruelty charges. The decree assigns custody of two minor children, Pearl Irene four and Eula Louise two, to the plaintiff.

George Ingwersen, a prominent Ne hawks resident, is at Fenger hospital in Omaha for an operation after months of illness. Mrs. N. C. Beverage of Murray is also at Fenger hospital, operated on yesterday afternoon, and is recovering well under the circumstances. Friends in the county will be glad to hear of their improving conditions.
The Plattsmouth high school class of 1919 held a reunion with decorations in red and white and large 1919 figures on the north wall. Harley Cecil was elected president and Hilt Merin secretary treasurer. Una Crook won the gum contest, Harley Cecil took the booby prize, and dancing continued until midnight with refreshments served by Helen Roberts Clara Rainey and Una Crook.
Friday afternoon the Woman's Relief Corps ladies gathered at Mrs. M. A. Street's home for a hiwa social. Thirty five attendees enjoyed informal visiting sewing and a two course luncheon in hot weather, with delight described by all present.
County Judge Allen J. Beeson united Miss Edna Burbee and Mr. Ray Chriswisser in marriage yesterday afternoon at the courthouse. The ceremony was witnessed by County Register of Deeds Edna Shannon and deputy clerk W. T. Adams. The couple will reside in Union and the groom works on the farm.

Lincoln Neb July 14. An anti saloon league inquiry reveals respondents link rising crime to prohibition. Respondents include local leaders and citizens who discuss law enforcement and social effects in the city.
Police chief Peter Johnstone of Lincoln states that prohibition has not only reduced crime but also increased it, arguing the policy produces unintended safety risks.
Voters defeated the dissolution measure in the Wabash consolidated district. The petition led to a July election where 54 opposed and 45 favored, short of the required two thirds. No district changes will occur at this time.
A large I W W party of tourists raided Murdoch station early Wednesday. They looted Neitzel hardware, taking two revolvers and ammunition, and forced some members to buy travel cards while others remained to work on farms. Authorities reported no action as the train departed.
A Journal representative toured W. E. Newkirk company’s Greenwood market noting a up-to-date refrigeration plant and dry polar air in the meat chamber. The system offers constant low temperatures and humidity control, surpassing old ice box methods. Newkirk said roasts were supplied to fifteen threshing outfits, indicating strong business activity.
Paris observes Bastille Day with mass crowds dancing in streets and torch light parades along the boulevards. The holiday recalls the fall of the Bastille and marks the French Revolution's symbol of oppression. A note recalls the German assault three years earlier aimed at Paris.
Funeral services for Leonard W. Murray longtime Cass County resident were held at the Mennonite church in Weeping Water. Rev W A Taylor led the service and burial followed at the local cemetery. Murray born in 1848 in Moniteau County Missouri endured pioneer hardships before settling near Rock Bluff. He married Frebecea A Wiles in 1860 and had eleven children. Survived by three sisters and many relatives, he faced long illness prior to death. The obituary notes his impact on the community and family.
Don McKenna fourteen year old son of I M McKenna sustained a severe head injury after being thrown from a bicycle near his Alva home. He lay unconscious in the roadway until passersby carried him home and medical help arrived. He regained partial consciousness the next day and is recovering though still weak.
In Los Angeles on July 14, Judge Burnell of the Pomona Superior Court ruled an ordinance banning Sunday entertainments with admission fees unconstitutional. He called it class legislation because churches could collect offerings on Sundays, effectively an admission to services.
