The county register of deeds shows fewer mortgage filings in the first six months of 1927 than 1926 and 1925, signaling improving general conditions. Farm and town property activity is down, with total filings and releases lower by substantial sums, suggesting stability returning to farmers and property owners.
Plattsmouth American Legion post met at the Chamber of Commerce rooms to elect delegates for the Lincoln state convention August 1 to 3. Recipients include Commander Henry G. Soennichsen and Post Commanders Raymond Larson Roy Heily with alternates Fred Lugsch E H Dovelas Emil J Hild.
Mrs. William Randall of Amita Louisiana visits old friends Mr and Mrs G Swenniker and Mr and Mrs W F Evers. North families cleared timber land near Amite for homesteads. many left after years, but the Randalls and five other families stayed and made their home in Louisiana near Amite. Amite lies in northwest Louisiana just south of the Mississippi line.
The record shows eight boys and two girls born in the city in the closed month and ten deaths, equally divided between males and females.
Reports from Omaha say Mrs. Glen Morse of this city, hospitalized at Methodist in Omaha, will lose sight of her left eye after a baseball struck her during an M W A team practice. The broken glasses cut the eyeball and penetrated the pupil, threatening total blindness. Her right eye is affected and may be saved.
Miles Allen has purchased the South 6th Street shoe store from John McLean who leaves to care for his blind mother in Gateshead on Tyne England. McLean plans to depart mid July and may return to Plattsmouth later. Allen, known in the area, will run a modern shop with a full shoe repair department and expects strong local patronage.
Little Miss Shirley Mason marked her fifth birthday with a surprise celebration at her parents home on West Main Street. Guests played games and enjoyed ice cream and cake, with Mrs. Mason helped by Mesdames Hewitt Hitzman Handley and Weaver. Auto loads of Methodist Sunday school members traveled to the E. H. Spangler home grove for the annual picnic. The grounds were prepared with swings and games for all ages, a 6 o'clock big supper was served, and Mrs. Helen Heinrich supervised the supper program. An evening vesper service followed replacing mid-week prayers.
Deputy Sheriff W R Young and County Attorney W G Kieck were uninjured after a high powered car, driven on the wrong side, forced a head on collision with their Buick near Eagle. The offender fled west toward Lincoln. the license number could not be determined.
From Thursday's tally word spread that Father Theodore Laurer, former pastor of St. Marys Catholic Church in Nebr City, lies near death after a ruptured appendix during surgery. Recently transferred to a St. Joseph Missouri church, he fell ill after celebrating his first mass and is rapidly failing with old friends and local residents in Plattsmouth sharing concern.
Ted Hadraba, Plattsmouth class of 1925 graduate, is a sophomore at Northwestern in Chicago. He earned six A grades and one B in the last term and worked on special research with Prof. Hahn. His family hopes for a summer visit home.

Mr and Mrs John Lowman and their young son left the city for Kansas City Missouri where Mr Lowman will enter a clinic for examination and treatment of longstanding health issues He has been a foreman on the Missouri Pacific railroad bridge project over the Platte River and came here with Woods Brothers Construction Co Neighbors regret their departure after a year in the community
Mills County farms across the Missouri river were flooded again as a rise yesterday pushed water over the levee near Folsom and along the main channel west and north of Pacific Junction. The new crest flooded thousands of acres, forcing farmers to abandon homes and suspend bottom land planting for the season, with damages expected to be heavy though not matching two weeks ago.
Blythe A. Rosencrans and Miss Blanche Kill were married in Chicago on Saturday July 2 in a quiet ceremony attended by close friends and relatives. The couple will honeymoon in Michigan City Indiana before returning to Chicago and making their home at 1521 Foster Avenue. The groom, a Nebraska native, has lived in the city since childhood and holds a senior position with a large Chicago photo engraving firm. C A Rosencrans known as the bobber found a golf ball near the club course bearing the initials H L. He says no local golfer with those initials is known and invites the owner or any golfer matching the initials to call at his barber shop to claim the ball and meet the finder.
Early morning collision on Locust street between 10th and 11th sent Harry Dwyer to Dr. Livingston with severe facial cuts while John Egenberger sustained minor injuries. The Overland crashed into a telephone pole at high speed after steering gear failure was suspected. Police filed a reckless driving charge against Egenberger. he was released on bond pending court.
Mrs Nancy E Patton and Mr J R Jones united in marriage at the home of R H Patton in the south part of the city. Rev Robertson of Lincoln officiated. Attendants included Mollie Roberts Ashland and Q K Parmele with other local friends. The couple plans to reside near the Columbian school where the groom works as custodian.
A hearing at Papillion yesterday involved plaintiffs Charles Renner and Edward Conner and a South Omaha resident defendant. The case was dismissed by agreement as the defendant will repair the Renner and Cotner cars to first class condition following a July 4 highway accident near Fort Crook.
The Lee Overall company created a fourteen by eight foot garment shown at C. E. Wescott's Sons. It aims to cover the largest man in the region, with smaller sizes available. no applicant has yet claimed the giant outfit, offering a rare chance if it fits.

Yesterday in Henderson at the bride’s parents home Miss Isabel Curyear wed Donald Fickle of Plattsmouth. Rev. Cooper officiated at First Methodist. After a homecoming, the couple will reside in Plattsmouth. Fickle worked at Christ and Christ and later Burlington Railroad offices.
Mr. and Mrs. John Cooley of Cheyenne county traveled through Nebraska en route to Battle Creek Michigan. They visited the Nebraska Masonic Home where Mrs. Leslie Cooley has stayed for months and dropped in on Mr. and Mrs. George Sayles, a second cousin of Mr. Cooley.

Mrs V. V. Leonard and daughter Miss Verna joined relatives including Theodore P. Leonard and Don C. Leonard families from Omaha in a Kansas City gathering. They visited the Carroll Leonard home and enjoyed the reunion in the Missouri city.
