Fourth of July Celebrations Dotted Plattsmouth Area

Quiet Fourth observed in Plattsmouth with a large Tulene place picnic west of town. Plattsmouth orchestra led by Tom Bwoboda provided music at the dance, and many residents joined celebrations in Glenwood Louisville and Weeping Water with abundant attendance and travel by train and car.

Youth Arrested in Team Theft at Farmers’ Complaint

The Daily reports Ray Melburn, a young lad, has been apprehended for the habit of taking farmers’ teams from where they are hitched and riding around. He will be sent to the state school at Kearney due to a prior complaint. Farmers had long complained, and police acted quickly to uncover the culprit.

Fourth of July Picnic Parties Bring Enjoyable City Celebrations

The Fourth of July yielded several pleasant picnics and dinners as residents spent the day visiting and sharing a good time. Miss Ferne Tannehill of Illinois and Miss Myrtle Herrington of York Nebraska spent the Fourth at the William Hassler home. Tannehill left this morning for York to visit friends briefly. Miss Anna Hassler of Lincoln arrived Thursday evening and will stay with her parents over Sunday.

Fourth of July home-made cannon injures boy

Robert Peters, son of Mr and Mrs J W Peters, built an improvised cannon from inch pipe filled with gunpowder and detonated it with a match. The blast tore flesh from his right hand, sparing his fingers with difficulty. He received stitches at Dr Livingston’s office and bore the pain bravely. Doctors expect the hand to heal without lasting damage, though recovery will take time.

Fourth of July ball game ends in tight loss for Plattsmouth

In a morning clash the Plattsmouth Roosters lost 1 to 0 to the Omaha Alhambras Booster team. A sixth inning error on Gobelman allowed the lone run, while Connors held the visitors to few hits and McGuire settled after an early wild start. The game stretched to a ten-inning finish with the Alhambras prevailing 6 to 5 due to late offense and Plattsmouth fielding miscues.

Connor pitched a fine game for the locals but costly errors and bone headed plays by teammates doomed Omaha in a 6 to 5 defeat. Vernon started for Alhambras, hooked in the eighth by Pete McGuire who helped seal the win. Plattsmouth struck in the third as Ault, Beal and Mann contributed. From Saturdays Wall: Mr and Mrs F G Pricke of this city and their son Dr Albert Fricke of South Omaha plan an extended trip through Germany sailing from New York late this week. They will visit relatives across Germany while Albert studies at a Berlin medical school during part of the stay before returning to the United States.
