Leonard Hanks of the Farm Security Administration cites a survey of 44 borrowers in Otoe and Cass counties showing average net worth gains of 327.29 since 1928. FSA loans in 1938 added 157 cattle 66 hogs and 3430 poultry, with growing diversification toward subsistence and poultry cream checks.
Fruce Shurtleff bid 3000 dollars at a Cass county sheriff sale and asks in Lincoln Supreme Court to amend the return to show sale at that price. The sheriff sold to Sarah M Wortman for 6000 dollars, with Wortman holding a 5000 dollar mortgage. Shurtleff contends the bid was null as conditioned on possession and seeks to redefine the sale.
A. L. Tidd prominent local attorney and leader in Missouri river improvement will address Tekamah Chamber of Commerce. He will discuss the river program and its promise for a larger and more abundant industrial life in the middle west through improved navigation and dock completion.
Mrs George Forno has been confined to her home for several days due to illness and remains under a physician's care. It is hoped she will show improvement in the coming days.
Mrs. Henry Mische and her young son returned home from Anton Kant hospital on Thursday. Friends express happiness at the couple's return and their good health.
John Mike Neitzel of Boise Idaho left January 4 on an extended five month journey to Hawaii Australia Pago Pago China Japan and the Strait settlements. He is a financier and grandson of Mrs Frank R Guthmann of this city, well known for his frequent visits.
The senior Chamber of Commerce held its first meeting of the year at a luncheon in Hotel Plattsmouth with many directors present. President J Howard Davis presided as the Junior Chamber officers Vincent Kelley Ray Bourne and Ordell Hennings spoke on their group’s aims.
Harold Hart former Hinky Dinky store manager now in Nebraska City asks district court to overturn a Workmans Compensation ruling denying him compensation for injuries from slipping on a lettuce leaf and a crate strike. He claims permanent injury and seeks 15 dollars per week plus hospital and doctor bills. Judge Jackman previously dismissed for lack of evidence.
Proves real fisherman Charles K Bestor vacationing at Lake Worth Florida and Gulf ports has caught a six and a half foot sailfish, one of the season’s largest. Vacationers staged photos with the catch to mail to friends up north as proof of skill.
Peter Halmes the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Halmes underwent an appendectomy at St. Joseph hospital in Omaha Thursday evening. He was rushed to the hospital and stood the operation in good condition with signs of rapid improvement.
The January meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary at Mrs. R. W. Knorr's home focused on legislation as congress and state legislatures begin new sessions. District officials attended, and Judge A. H. Duxbury spoke on planned measures including the widow's and orphan's bill and other veterans legislation. Refreshments followed.
A. D. Crank, a well known local farmer near Union, sold a premier mule team weighing 2990 pounds for 400 dollars to the Ash Grove Cement plant of Louisville, Nebraska. This marks Crank’s third such sale in two years, adding to a six year total of 1276 dollars for his three teams.
A group of Plattsmouth Masons traveled to Nebraska City Friday evening for the installation of Western Star lodge No. 2. The event drew large attendance from nearby lodges including Plattsmouth Nehawka. Raymond C. Cook served as installation officer and Henry Carson acted as grand marshal. Afterward the visiting Masons shared a luncheon and gave short talks.
Two Wescott family members were operated on Friday. Miss Alice Louise Wescott had surgery at St. Francis hospital in Evanston Illinois and Mrs E H Wescott was operated on at Methodist hospital in Omaha. Both patients are reported doing as well as possible under the circumstances.
The Live Wire club of Iowa Nebraska Light & Power Co held a supper and entertainment at Hotel Plattsmouth last evening. Lowell Devoe performed magic and led songs with F I Rea and Chas Ault assisting. Mrs Devoe played piano. Awards went to Mrs Kea for best ladies costume and Chas Ault for best men. Warren Sharfenberg won the grand prize, a ten pound ham.

Weeping Water residents Ordell Hennings William Farney Vincent Kelley and Cecil Hennings attended a semi monthly meeting at the chamber club rooms. Dick Winkelmann president and Carroll Sherman secretary of the Nebraska Junior Chamber of Commerce spoke offering helpful suggestions for both towns. Oyster stew was served by the hosts after the meeting.
A trucker reported seeing a large bull snake on the highway and brought it into the city. The warm winter and springlike air on Friday likely woke the reptile from hibernation.
Plattsmouth merchants invite free votes on all produce for sale at participating stores. Three votes are allowed for each penny’s worth of cream and farm products sold, as part of the Rural School Playground Equipment Contest.
The Plattsmouth high school Platters under Coach Bion Hoffman edged the Nebraska City Pioneers 26 to 24 in a tense finish. Warren Reed scored ten for Plattsmouth including two late free throws, while Metz led the Pioneers with eleven.
A Friday evening gathering surprised Mrs. Earl Meisinger on her birthday. Guests, including the Meisingers and friends, played ecards and Chinese checkers, enjoyed gifts and refreshments prepared by Mrs. Henry Meisinger and helpers, and departed with wishes for more happy returns.

William A. Robertson former grand master of the A F and A M of Nebraska attended a Omaha banquet hosted by Right Angle lodge No 303. He presented a past master’s jewel to W T Bailey who was retiring as master of the lodge.
Mrs. Sarah Young 84 widow of Lewis H. Young and Nehawka pioneer died Saturday night at 8 45 at the family home after two months of serious illness from a stroke last November She was born in December 1854 in Peoria County Illinois and came to Nebraska in 1856 settling in Cass County near Three Groves She married April 9 1873 lived on the Nehawka farm and helped organize Otterbein United Brethren church She leaves three children John Young Murray Calif C Y Perry Los Angeles Parr Young Nehawka a sister Mrs Ida Young Weeping Water ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren The funeral is expected Wednesday at Otterbein church if daughter Mrs C Troop can reach from California.
Robert H Wall age 81 died at his home 2308 South 16th Street Lincoln at 8 06 am Sunday after a illness of long duration. He is survived by six sons Robert C Unadilla James T Eagle Ray Elmwood Royal Eagle Richard E and Frank C Lincoln a daughter Zella Divens Cen tralia Washington two brothers James D Lincoln William O Eagle and a sister Eleanor Dixon Berkley California Funeral services set for Elmwood Methodist Church at 2 pm Tuesday with Rev F E Sala officiating burial in Elmwood.
Mrs. Dan Reichstadt returned to her home from Clarkson Hospital where she had been recuperating from a serious operation performed several days ago. Her many friends in the city are glad to hear she has made a complete recovery.

Rt Rev Monsignor Adolph M Mosler former pastor of Holy Rosary now at St Patrick Havelock was taken to St Elizabeth hospital Lincoln after a heart attack during forty hours devotion at Blessed Sacrament church. His condition was improving and he was resting well.
