The Democratic city convention at the court bosques Wednesday night nominated Arnold J. Lillie for mayor with 107 votes to 45 for Marc Lattier. Richard E Black was named city clerk by unanimous vote, M D Brown was renominated for city treasurer, and C L Graves was named for an accounting post. Howard Davis was chosen as central committee chairman and ward officers were selected for the coming year.

Death Comes Suddenly to A. E. Stewart
Arthur E. Stewart 35 superintendent of the Norfolk Packing Company died at his North Fourth Street home from a heart attack. He had planned a long rest and vacation in the south and Mexico. He is survived by his wife. Stewart had led the local packing plant here four of the past five years and his body was taken to Sattler Funeral Home pending arrangements.

Plattsmouth contestants ranked well at Tarkio College event with 350 students from 40 schools in Missouri Iowa and Nebraska competing. Wihma Swatek Stephen Le Toe Floraelle Mesde and Jean Kuorr earned ratings from excellent to superior in declamation and extemporaneous speaking. Other Class A results gave Shenzandoah Clarinda and Corning top places. Corning won the music division with Clearfield second.

Methodist Ladies Have Interesting Meet at Mrs Ledws Home
Methodist Ladies Missionary Society met yesterday at the home of Mrs John M Levids with a large attendance including four visitors. Mrs Lawson led devotions from Faas missionary routes, a minutes roll call followed. The treasurer reported dues and the collection. A letter from the conference secretary urged support for bills on movies liquor advertising and post office supervision. The lesson from the prayer book discussed rebuilding rural America and agricultural conditions. Refreshments were served by Mrs Pete Carr assisted by Mrs Leyda and her daughter Mrs Andy Moore. A day of prayer was announced for Friday March at the Christian church.

Death Comes to John L. Smith Local Resident
John L. Smith, longtime Cass county resident and farmer near Nehawka, died Friday night after a prolonged illness. Born April 22 in Durkan Junction Tinels, he moved with his family to Rock Bluffs and later Cass county. Survived by son Herman, eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
