Longtime Cass County Democrat Leader William Wheeler Dies
William D. Wheeler a longtime Cass County Democrat leader died at 4 a.m. at his Oakwood home near Rock Bluffs after years of illness. Born January 36 1857 in Mississippi he moved to Nebraska and served as Cane County sheriff and treasurer. He assisted William Jennings Bryan and attended the 1912 Democratic National Convention. Survived by wife Mary and five children plus two grandchildren, the Wheeler family asks for friends to share in their grief.

The American Legion Auxiliary met at the Legion building in a brief session before members attend the World Day of Prayer service. They received letters of appreciation for donations to St John’s school and city grade schools. The group voted to give 10 to the D A R living memorial fund for Washington trees and shrubs to be planted this season and dedicated in February 193. They approved 2.50 for C M T C prizes for Plattsmouth’s top student this summer. Mrs Frank Barkus spoke on George Washington with many facts about the first president.

He worked at the Union Pacific freight house and passed away at home on 2420 South 23rd street after a weeklong illness. Mrs. George Conis Survives Gas Escpeade Sunday
Mrs George Conis narrowly escaped death Sunday after a gas stove jet partly opened flooded her kitchen with gas. She collapsed in the kitchen and lay unconscious for hours before revived with medical help. Her children Catherine and John alerted her husband Mr Conis who carried her to bed as Dr Westover treated her. Today she remains weak but continues to recover at home.

Funeral of James Mitchell in Plattsmouth
The funeral for James Mitchell, longtime Plattsmouth resident and Civil War veteran, was held Saturday at Streight funeral home. Rev. H. G. McClusky led services with a quartet and solos, followed by burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. Mitchell, born November 24, 1844 in Cincinnati, lived most of his life in Plattsmouth and died February 20, 1931 in Grand Island at age 86. His family includes wife Alpha Conn, six children, and several surviving relatives.
