Christian Wohlfarth of this city received word that his brother William Worl eart a 56 year old Germany born book store owner and single man died suddenly in New York City. Wohlfarth plans to embalm and hold the body and travel with his son Paul to attend the funeral.
The hospitable home of Mr and Mrs Charles Ryberg on South Sev enth street hosted a large social Saturday evening for their 26th wedding anniversary. Guests enjoyed games, luncheon, punch and fruit with a silver tea service presented as a memento. A later real estate transfer recorded shows Emma and Frederick M Andrus selling to Louis W Ingwerson part of section 34 town 11 range 11 for 10000 with a 2000 mortgage assumed.
Ex governor George L. Sheldon arrived back at his Nehawka home Saturday and said by phone he plans to visit friends in Lincoln in the coming days. He described a fine winter on a Mississippi plantation with a six inch snow cover. he will return south soon to stay with Mrs. Sheldon until spring.
Judge Trav opened the February term with jury duty and a busy docket. Defaults were entered in several cases including Connyn Conna divorce, Lindholm vs Enders, Metz vs Metz, and Speck vs Speck. The State pressed trials on Thrall and Neligh, while Myers was dismissed after domestic settlement. Jurors Bullis and Becker excused for health. Multiple trials scheduled including Bowerson, C B Q Ry, and others.
Harvey R. Waldron died last Saturday night at his Waterloo Nebraska home. Funeral held in Waterloo yesterday at 2 PM led by Rev. F A Campbell. Survived by wife two sons H B Waldron and W T Waldron two daughters Mrs Morey Mrs Parker and Mrs Cassel, plus siblings in University Place New York and near Alvo. Local friends extend condolences to the widow and children.
Register of Deeds Snyder recorded multiple transfers and mortgages including Jacob A Hasemeier to M N Drake for lots 650 and 651 in Loula ville for 300 dollars and several Kunz, Klemme, and Anderson transfers totaling thousands. Notable deeds cover sections 9 14 and 24 in townships 9 11 with values from 100 to 8000 dollars across Carter's addition and Latta's addition in Weeping Water Murray and surrounding areas.
The famed wild bovine troubling Claus Speck and John Lowther on Speck’s Island is hunted down and slain by Herman Holschuh “the diamond king” with Speck and Lowther witnesses. Holschuh’s ambush and cannon fire end the cow’s run of terror. Speck plans resolutions of thanks, and Lowther enjoys a rib roast from the slain animal.
Mr and Mrs Gus Johnson announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter Miss Annie to Mr O N Nystrom of Omaha. The ceremony will be Thursday February 24 at 8 o clock at the Swedish Mission church with a reception at the bride's home in South Park. Miss Johnson a 1904 graduate and former Variety store clerk. Nystrom is son of Dr and Mrs Nystrom of Omaha and employed at the Omaha post office.
Omaha Bee report notes Col Bates of Plattsmouth on the waiting list at the Lincoln Democratic banquet. He wore a Plattsmouth booster button and downplayed the question about Nebraska dry in 1910, aligning with County representative on Bryan's program.
Henry Hirs, who recently sold his fine stallion, rode the morning train to Council Bluffs with plans to visit a local farm and inspect another stallion for possible purchase. He aims to enter the breeding business as his principal pursuit, noting the steady rise in the quality of horses being raised. As a skilled judge of horseflesh, he intends to stay at the forefront of the field if a suitable animal is found.
Russell York writes from Seattle dated February 9 enclosing a Canadian dollar with a subscription payment for a year. He reports leading a laundry plant with 27 inside workers and 6 outside drivers, handling 1000 to 1800 shirts weekly, with a $10,000 plant and weekly revenue of 850 to 1000 dollars. The Journal congratulates him and praises his success and plans to stay connected.
Judge Archer sentences John Mc Farland to a $50 fine plus costs after a hearing about a prior incident described as a “voluptous jag.” The court allows release about a half hour before a Schuyler train to seek work in Louisville, with a year’s ban on Plattsmouth.
James W. Newell of Burlington at Omaha arrived with his wife to spend the night with his parents Mr and Mrs Newell. He planned to return to his Omaha offices on the morning train while Mrs Newell remained for a visit.
A large crowd of neighbors gathered at Edward C. and Mrs Rummell’s home last Saturday for a lively charivai. They escorted the couple to receive congratulations and shared refreshments amid hearty revelry and praise for the popular pair. The attendees, including many city friends, planned future visits to further honor the newlyweds.
The Journal notes Rev. W. C. Harrell, Methodist pastor at Mynard, received a fine Galloway robe as a gift from many friends and admirers a few days ago. Led by W. F. Gillispie, principal donors were non church members, making the presentation especially meaningful to him.
Miss Misa Kathe Whittaker hosted a Valentine party for her girl friends at Mrs. F. R. Whittaker’s home. The afternoon featured games, prizes for pinning a tail on a paper cat and chewing gum figure making, with prizes awarded to Mabel Brown Vera Brown Myra Steiner. Attendees included Alice Pollock Abbie Mabel Vera Brown Blanche Della Sayles Emma Cummins Myra Stenner Elva Hartford Frances Morley Helen Roberta and others.
Mrs H M Regnier died suddenly at her home from heart trouble. Wife of H M Regnier fore keeper of the Burlington railroad, she lived in the city about a year and is survived by her husband and two young children. The body will be taken to Galesburg Illinois tomorrow evening for interment on Burlington train No 2. John Wagner of South Bend visited the city yesterday.
The county board adjourns amid lively debate on pauper burial contracts, bids for county printing, and bond responsibilities. Officials transfer funds to the soldiers relief fund while appointing county physicians and debating a controversial accountant report on Sheriff Quinton.
Word arrived from Union announcing the death of Henry Peterson aged sixty two. He died last Monday night after residing for years on the H. W. Lloyd farm. He was single with one known relative, his nephew Albert Peterson of Polk Ned. The nephew arrived and the remains were taken to Polk for burial. Community mourns his passing.
