Longtime Cass County resident Joseph Schlater dies at 91
Joseph Schlater, aged about 91, former Plattsmouth jeweler and longtime Cass County resident, died at his nephew Frank E Schlater’s home. Born in Germany, he immigrated as a youth, lived in Plattsmouth and Kayes County before moving to Louisville and then back to Plattsmouth. He never married and left surviving nephews and nieces from the Schlater line. He was a Mason, belonging to Plattsmouth Lodge No. 6 before transferring to Hayes Center. He was remembered as a courteous, well liked man with many friends.

Fontenelle chapter Daughters of the American Revolution led a ceremony headed by Mrs. E H Wescott, regent, as six grade students from local schools sang patriotic songs. Attorney A H Duxbury spoke for the American Legion on citizenship, highlighting American greatness and ideals. History and civics classes joined the event, showing strong interest in welcoming new citizens.
