Mrs A W Hollmeyer of Kansas City visited the city last Saturday searching for her husband Jim Hollmeyer. A letter from Kansas City says he is safe and sound at home, misdirected mail delaying word. Friends had feared he wandered off after experiences in the World War gas exposure.
The St. Luke’s church Men’s club gathered last evening at Judge James T. Begley’s hospitable home. Members enjoyed profitable discussions on church history and a social get-together with delicious refreshments. The group plans a third Wednesday meeting at R. F. Patterson’s home.
A Thursday evening at the New Way club in Plattsmouth drew city residents and newcomers for a sociable gathering at the M. W. A. hall. Guests checked in, enjoyed a community sing led by Mrs. E. H. Wescott, with Charlotte Field performing a solo, then danced from 9:20 onward. A luncheon by City Cafe closed the pleasant event.
Death announced from Havelock where Edward Kroehler longtime Burlington employee lived after leaving Danville. Son of Col Fred Kroehler, he grew up here and left many friends. Survived by brother Fred Krochler of Havelock and Mrs Herman Kleitsch of Weeping Water. Funeral Friday at 11 at Havelock with burial in Fremont.
Plattsmouth high school upset the Nebraska School for the Deaf 34 to 19 as lineup changes paid off. Joe Krejci led with 18 points on nine field goals while Mullis added key free throws and Grado ville, Koubek, Krejci, Warga, and Svoboda contributed. The eighth grade prelims lost 7 to 5 due to a self inflected basket.
Members of the Birthday Club gathered for a Thursday observance at Mr. R. W. Clement’s East Granite street home. A 2 o clock dinner featured candle decorations with Dr. J. S. Livingston and Mr. Clement as guests of honor. Hostess assistance came from Miss Helen Clement and Miss Ursula Herold. after dinner the ladies played bridge. Attendees included Mia and Barbara Gering Dora Fricke Mesdames J. S. Livingston J. A. Toneson Henry Herold and J. H. Donnelly of Omaha.
Reports from the Presbyterian hospital in Omaha note Tom Rabb is showing marked improvement after his recent operation. He is able to rise and walk a little each day and should be able to leave the hospital soon, though he will remain until the danger of relapse passes.
Douglas McCrary returns from months on the Pacific coast with friends and relatives in Los Angeles reporting the Plattsmouth colony there thriving and in good condition. He expresses satisfaction with the country and prospects.
County commissioners conducted a long session addressing routine year start matters. They granted permission to close a Rock Island crossing near mile post 541 and approved bonds for county funds totaling 28 000. Contracts for county physicians across districts were awarded. Elmwood Leader Echo won county printing. burial of pauper dead awarded to John P Sattler.
Mrs Anna Hiber formerly of Plattsmouth and Mr Herbert Rokhar of Lincoln wed in Kansas City Missouri on a Monday afternoon. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Hiber, studied at Plattsmouth and worked in Omaha. The groom, a Lincoln resident and Nebraska University graduate, is a leading architect. They will live in Ainsworth until after July 1 then return to Lincoln.
Mr and Mrs T H Pollock report a lively time on the Pacific coast They toured Tijuana Mexico a feature west coast spot with races and thousands of visitors from the United States The town is described as wide open in every resort.
Frank E. Schlater was in Omaha for treatment. An infection in his left ear led to an operation yesterday and he will undergo short term treatment.
Blank books and magazines left at the Journal office prompting readers to advertise any lost items. The notice invites the public to check and claim belongings.
George Kroehler, aged about 85, is in serious condition at St. Marys and Omaha hospital after undergoing treatment. He had spent summer with his son Andrew Kroehler and has lived with another son, George Kroehler, in Omaha this winter. Family and friends hope for relief as he remains hospitalized and under care.
Mrs Anna Baieck Gurs dies at home in Plattsmouth after long illness from artery disease. Born December 25, 1844 in Skali Pohemia she immigrated to America with husband Joins Bajeck in 1881 and settled in Plattsmouth. Survived by seven children, thirty two grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. A devout Homen Catholic, funeral Saturday at Holy Rosary Church with burial in Catholic cemetery west of the city.
The practical test of advertising is whether business leaders use it year after year. Firms continue to spend heavily on publicity only if results prove it necessary and profitable. The postwar boom in advertising shows its powerful role in building trade as threefold more is spent today than before the war.

The Christian church ladies gathered at Mrs. J. H. Hall's residence with assistance from Mrs. W. A. Rouse for a pleasant afternoon. A brief business session followed by social time featured songs by Mrs. George Nelson and readings by Mrs. George Decker. Refreshments were served, with the next meeting planned at Mrs. Alvin Jones’s home and Mrs. Glare Clark assisting.
Mr and Mrs Julius Nielson hosted a six course dinner Tuesday night for their daughter Charlotte Nielson. The event featured music games and a peanut hunt with Ray Cavender winning first and Thelma Kroehler second. Guests included Margie Pickett Marion Copenhaver J E Deal Glenn McBride Clarence Nielson and the hostess Charlotte Nielson.
Charles Kunsman reports John Carmack, a Nicholas Oil Co. salesman from Omaha, is in very serious condition after a fall into a twelve foot deep pit at an Edgar garage. He sustained fractures to both ankles and a broken foot, with surgery not yet possible and continued pain.
The city currently reports widespread colds and flu with most cases mild and not leading to serious illness. Families are affected and treated at home, contrasting with the severe 1918 epidemic that caused many deaths nationwide.
John Gauer a renowned Cedar Creek crack shot departs this evening for Kansas City to compete in an interstate shooting match scheduled for the coming week.
A large joint meeting of Plattemouth Protestant churches is planned for Sunday February 18 at 7 30 PM in the First Methodist church. Attorney C A Rawls will preside and Mr Roberts senior secretary of the Town and County division will deliver a talk on Y M C A extension work featuring Roosevelt Country Life commission experience. The men's chorus will perform and no subscriptions will be solicited, only the usual church offering.
George Kunz sold 160 acres known as the Mathews farm to Dave Kunz, adjoining Dave’s 160 acres to the west. The deal included 80 acres near the Henry Vogt farm and involved about $14,000, giving Dave 220 acres in a single block for easier management.
Some Fine Hog from Friden Mafi¢c Co Ls Mayabb, a top Black Poland China breeder, attended D C Lonegan’s sale at Florence and bought a thoroughbred boar born September 20 1921. The 500 pound youngster will farrow this month and was bred to Celebrated boar Ak Sar Ben.
George Murray, his wife and young son from Evenne Wyoming joined George’s sister in visiting old friends for a few hours Thursday. They drove to Milford to attend the funeral of Mrs. L H Kearns, grandmother of George, marking Mr. Murray’s first visit here in several years.
