Cattle Disease Reported in County Pasture
A seasonal cattle illness has caused cattle deaths in parts of the county. The disease, similar to outbreaks in eastern Iowa and Missouri, is linked to a black substance on damp cornstalk fodder. Authorities say it is not contagious and persists as long as cattle eat the fodder, worsening with damp, cold weather.

City council bans youths climbing trains under seventeen rule
The Monday night meeting approved an ordinance prohibiting anyone under seventeen from getting onto trains or cars within city limits. Offenders face a fine up to ten dollars per offense. Previously officers could not stop the habit of boys jumping on moving trains. Those caught may be arrested immediately.
