Glen Smith owner of Lincoln Construction filed a bid with the county clerk for next year’s bridge contract. About eight or ten bids were submitted this morning for Cass county bridges. Bids to be opened this afternoon include R. L. Laughlin and F. B. Stevens from Harlan Town and P. J. Crummel of Auburn Nebraska.
From Wakeeney Kansas Mr. C Totten plans to adopt Clay Edwards only son aged about nine. Edwards is dying of consumption and wishes his son to live with Mr. and Mrs. Totten who have no children. The boy is eager to go and both parties may benefit.
Joseph Cook of Plattsmouth city limits returned home yesterday afternoon after a brief stay in Norfolk with his brother Philip Cook and family. He noted heavy snow, describes over a foot, and says farming prospects in the area are hard due to the storm but the people are prosperous.
Havvelock Times questions the Gut Hell brand claiming a misprint while the German term would read Gut Mefl meaning Good Cheer. The piece notes Bernard Warl, a young man known for bringing cheer to all who meet him.
Attorney D C Dwyer was called to Omaha this afternoon on legal business for a few hours. The reason for the trip and specific matters discussed were not disclosed.
Mrs Louie Dose left for Mineola Iowa following the death of her sister in law Mrs Fred Hammer who died yesterday at age 70 from complications of grip. The deceased was well known in Plattsmouth, having visited here several times.

Neighbors and friends gathered at Mr. C. Roberts home on Saturday to celebrate his thirty-ninth birthday. Guests arrived with baskets of food, shared a luncheon, and enjoyed cards, social conversation, and ice. Attendees included Ben Hyde, Robert Brissey, George Lamphear, O M Roberts, Charles Lamplhear of Omaha, and William Lamphear of Maxwell Nebraska.
Harry Wiles, long-time farmer near Mynard, renewed for his paper in the city and plans to move to Wabasm in this week. His brother Will, also a farmer near Weeping Water, will move in about a month after renting a half section from F H Stander near Manley. Both are regarded as good renters and skilled farmers.

The Plattsmouth School board voted to skip spring vacation and close the school on May 26. Graduation sermon is planned for Sunday evening May 21 with exercises on Thursday May 25. The class play will be overseen by Superintendent Abbott.
The Red Men ball Saturday at Coates hall drew a large crowd and raised funds amid lively dancing and thunder wall effects. The M W A orchestra provided superior music while prizes awarded included Miss Saunders Cedar Creek and Miss Elian Newman Plattsmouth in costumes. Charles Green as Uncle Sam and George Kaffenberger won top men prizes.
Mrs Jane Foster aged 83 died at Union Saturday after a three month illness from paralysis. Born July 21 1828 in Painesville Ohio she lived in Council Bluffs before moving to farms near Dunbar and Union. Survived by husband Nathan D Foster and stepdaughter Mrs G P Barton Union. Funeral held at her home conducted by Rev W A Taylor with interment nearby.
Three carloads of Vermont granite arrived yesterday over the M P from the east and are being unloaded by H C McMahen and Son. One more car is expected to complete the shipment and the building will be rushed to completion unless weather delays the work.
Mrs H J Streight suffered a grip attack last evening and remained very ill during the night.
The funeral for Samuel Russell of Mills County Iowa was held Sunday at the Baptist church where he had been a member for forty years. Despite a storm the church was filled with friends and relatives. pallbearers were his grandchildren Walter Gouchenour Sam Gouchenour Harry Gouchenour William Mendenhall Walter Mendenhall and Clarence Russell. Interment followed at Martin's Chapel Cemetery. The Russell family line is shown in the accompanying illustration.
The service at the Friends' guelery praised the long useful career and noble traits of the deceased. Pastor officiated and Mrs. Laura Lincoln and children provided music with a selection of the deceased's favorite hymns.
Right Reverend Thomas Bonacum bishop of Lincoln died at the bishop's mansion near Lincoln at noon Saturday from pneumonia and Bright's disease. He was sixty five and had led the diocese for twenty years overseeing church growth and the St Thomas orphanage. Funeral set for Thursday at St Theresa's pro cathedral Lincoln with burial likely near the orphanage.
Mrs. W. H. Seybert, operated on last Wednesday, is doing nicely and recovering her normal condition. The batteries will be removed from the wound within a few days.
To neighbors and friends who offered aid and sympathy during illness and death of our father the Burlington boys sent a wreath of flowers to the casket. Russell's Sons Daughters and Families express deepest thanks.
The Fiattamouth Telephone Company annual stockholders meeting was postponed due to an injunction suit. directors remain unchanged and operations continue with Bell connections available. Proceeds for stock sales were not resolved, leaving some investors disappointed.
L C W Murray land north and west of Murray village sold at foreclosure for 73 dollars per acre. Carl Kaneman purchased the 188 acre farm after a low-spirited bidding. The land, long farmed and well regarded, was not sold for the mortgagee’s equity.
Mr J Fr Trituch a Plattsmouth poultry grower came to the city at market opening with a basket of eggs. He said being early pays as he likes to be on hand when the market opens to sell.
