Promoters plan to locate a new artificial ice plant in Plattsmouth to supply sanitary ice at low prices. Experts say the 15 ton per day facility will meet local demand and create summer jobs, with backing from city leaders and nearby Nebraska City where similar plans exist.
Charles Collins appeared at the office of Police Judge M. Archer after a Tuesday call to answer a drunkenness charge. The judge found him guilty and fined 82 and costs, with release on promise to pay the amount in a few days.
The funeral for Ami B. Todd was held Monday afternoon at the Dwyer home on North Fifth Street. Rev. F. M. Druliner of the First Methodist church led a brief service, offering comfort to the sorrowing wife and relatives. The casket was carried to Oak Hill cemetery by pallbearers W. K. Fox, Thom Walling, William Schmidtmann, A. J. Tidd, and C. C. Despain, old friends of the deceased.
Last evening the home of Mr and Mrs E Lewis welcomed a ten pound daughter. Both mother and child are reported doing well and the proud father celebrates the new arrival in the city.
County Clerk Frank J. Libershas appointed B. A. Rosencrans as deputy county clerk and the appointment was approved by the board of commissioners. Rosencrans is described as a well qualified, obliging young man suited for handling taxpayers’ needs in the office.
Rural letter carrier J M Young praises neighbors for dragging roads this past week. Jake Krueger and Everett Thomason receive high marks for effort, while Theo Amick and Fred Hild are noted for significant miles covered. Grover Will and L H Heil praised for maintaining routes and aiding the mail carrier.
County Judge A J Beeson issued a marriage license to Henry H Spatz 29 of Bennett Neb and Sedona M Wenzel 22 of Eagle this county yesterday. They plan to wed Tuesday evening at the bride's parents home near Eagle with the bride's father Edward Wenzel accompanying them.
Local advocates urge establishing a business college in Plattsmouth to fill multiple job openings. The list of signatories includes executives and managers from banks, real estate, schools, post office, Burlington Shops, and notable firms, indicating broad civic support for the proposal.
A fair sized audience saw The Girl in the Taxi a lively Paris style farce at the Parmale Theater. George Falkner as Bertie drew hearty laughs with perfect comic timing while Aileen Morrison as Mittion captivated in elegant gowns and stage presence amid New York scenes and breezy adventures. Manager Shines offers an entertaining feature for the season and patrons left pleased.
W J O’Brien state fish commissioner of South Bend visited the Burlington shops for repairs in a brief stop at the Journal office. He was accompanied by Mr Fox of Louisville and the encounter was described as thoroughly enjoyable and pleasant by the staff.
Mrs Mary Parsons filed for divorce from William H Parsons in district court. They wed May 22 1897 at Eddsville Town. She alleges repeated extreme cruelty and denial of home occupancy. Requests temporary alimony, divorce decree, and custody of two minor children.
The board of county commissioners met in regular session at the courthouse to address matters and review claims filed for January.
In Cass County near Murdock an eighty acre tract sold by Mrs. Margaret Bornemeier to Herman Kupke for 15000, a vast rise from 3500 paid in 1896. The land remains untiled and mirrors the region's top farming value amid rising prairie prices. The sale underscores Cass County’s leading land values and continued demand for fertile fields.
Mrs Louisa J Finch died at age 90 at her daughter Mrs T L Shafer’s home in the west part of the city after years of feebleness. She had lived in Glenwood, Iowa before moving to this city three years ago. She leaves E F Finch of this city R C Bailey of near Murray and Mrs Shafer. Funeral services will be at the home tomorrow morning and the body will be taken to Glenwood Town for interment in the family lot.
Attend J T Lyell's large farm sale at Eagle Nebraska on February 7 with livestock machinery and equipment offered by the Lyell estate. Public sale notices urge buyers from nearby towns to bid on farm assets.
Reports from south of the city note believer in road improving. Waller Sons near Rock Bluffs earns praise for dragging roads to town while Sans equips his team to drag the route to Plattsmouth and back to attend a show, setting a public spirited example for neighbors.
Warga retires after running a grocery and meat market near the post office. H F Hecht purchases the stock and moves it to his store in the Masonic Temple building. Hecht plans a separate department for Warga stock and will sell it at retail quickly. Warga has not announced his future plans.
Ernest Tuey returned to his home yesterday after a brief stay in Omaha for appendicitis surgery. He spent a little over two weeks in the hospital and is now recovering, with friends optimistic about continued improvement.
The Plattsmouth steam laundry changes hands from William H Barclay and A. J. Trilety to FE C Harris of South Omaha. Harris assumes management, moves with his family, and aims to maintain the high standard and establish permanent residence in Plattsmouth.
Thomas Wiles of West Locust street reports a nighttime attempt to steal a high value yearling heifer near his pasture. A rope noose was found around the calf neck, suggesting an intent to lead it away or choke it, but the would be thief fled. Wiles plans tighter security to protect his stock.

The Pistmouth Commercial College plans a Monday evening opening in the Reekweed building hall once cleaned and renovated. Randall, the secretary, has secured staff including Berhert and Mrs. Sapre. The school will use standard typewriters and welcomes out of town students, with early openings and future expansion to the Janes Secheor building for added revenue.
The Ladies' Auxiliaries of the Presbyterian church were delightfully entertained at Mrs. K. A. Schneier's home on Tuesday afternoon. Guests included Mrs. Stremsht, Kate Miner, and H. A. Schneider among about thirty five attendees. A short business session followed by refreshments.
