Plastering has started on the interior of the Elks Club House on North Sixth Street. The building features a large billiard room, reading room, card room, buffet, and second floor banquet hall with a planned ornate exterior of red brick and stucco.
A group of Hillard Grassman peers gathered at his home for a surprise eighteenth birthday party. The evening featured games and a luncheon, with attendees including Florence and Margaret Buttery Edith Rebal Pauline Long Harry Forbes Hugh Foster Roy South Ed McCullough and Mr and Mrs H G Klinger who left with keepsakes for the guest of honor.
Harve Manners of this city has perfected a device for electric signs that changes letters by current and separate lighting to emphasize words. The invention claims noiseless operation and space efficiency, with patenting pending and high market potential as a standout recent development.
William Gregg of Lincoln visited George Clifton in the county jail to question him about automobile tools Clifton allegedly stole in Lincoln weeks ago. Clifton admitted taking the tools and hiding them under a viaduct near Gregg’s home, but the items were already taken by another.
Teacher Beulah Sans announces a box social hosted by her class to benefit the local school. The event is set for Friday evening February 6 and invites everyone in the community to attend.
Plattsmouth reports a public wedding held in Auburn at St Joseph's Church on a recent Monday morning. Miss Harriet S Fight of Plattsmouth wed Mr Thomas Sullivan of Louisville with Father Shine officiating. After the ceremony the couple left for Florida for a brief honeymoon. The bride, a popular local teacher, is esteemed in Plattsmouth and Grand Island for her school work and character. The groom, superintendent of a Louisville quarry, is well regarded and congratulated on his choice.
Plattsmouth High School basketball lost to Elmwood High School 55 to 16 after a rough start to the season. Key players listed include Byron Arries Waldemar Soennichsen Floyd Stone Frank Rebal Paul Handlay Raymond Larson and Wallace Hunter. A return game is scheduled next Friday at the German Home.
Members of the S S club enjoyed a social evening at their rooms after the annual officer election. Miss Edna Morrison hosted the event with progressive games, a coin purse prize, and a late two course dessert, ending with members departing happy.
Mrs. Julia E. Thomas writes she has visited Oklahoma for over a month and finds the country beautiful and the people kind. She notes a dry season last year but a bountiful crop of many items and a lovely winter thus far. She mentions few frosty mornings and minimal freezing.
The Laurel Advocate reports Rev H G McClusky received a call to become pastor at the First Presbyterian church in Plattsmouth. He preached there recently and will likely accept, resigning his Laurel pastorate after six and a half years. Plattsmouth, with about 5,000 residents, offers a larger field and a new manse planned this year.
The troupe performed Life's Shop Window at the Parmele to a small audience and impressed spectators with solid rendering. As with any company, some cast members stood out more, but overall the group compares well with other small-town outfits. The company then moved on to Atlantic, Iowa.
Two newborn girls arrive in the city, one at Charles C. Janda’s home in the north part and another at George Hrasky’s residence. Both mothers and babies are reported doing well, bringing joy to their families and local population growth.

The county home of William A Fight near Mynard burned to ashes shortly after 6 PM. Fight, severely burned weeks earlier, was en route to Plattsmouth when a fire alarm at the barn drew Mrs Fight who found flames consuming the house. Fire spread through a roof and ceilings, destroying the structure despite neighbor efforts. The blaze likely started from a defective flue and only a few items were saved. The couple faces a heavy loss, mostly uninsured, amid Fight’s recent injuries.
David Wichmann of Brainard Nebraska is visiting in the city for a few weeks with his brother John Wiehmann and family and sister Mrs H M Soennichsen. He formerly lived here about ten years ago and worked in the Burlington shops. Since moving to Minnesota he has been farming. Local friends welcome the reunion and a chance for a brief chat.
Funeral held at Lincoln home for A B Dickson who died Tuesday evening. Dickson, a pioneer settler arriving in 1872, lived near Elmwood before moving to Lincoln. He served one term as county commissioner starting in 1886 and endured health declines including amputation before his death in Lincoln.
Benefit event for widows of a gasoline engine explosion to be held at Mynard M W A hall on Saturday evening February 7th with proceeds directed to the relief effort.
The revival at the Methodist church concluded last evening with a sermon titled Another Chance by Rev. F. M. Druliner. A large audience filled the church as the pastor’s calm, clear presentation of Christian teachings was praised for lifting the revival beyond sensational methods and inspiring better living in the community.
Mrs Marty Ann Stewart a Cass County pioneer born January 17 1830 in Springfield Missouri died Thursday after a brief illness of pneumonia in Nebraska City where she had lived since 1884 with her daughter Mrs Calvin Chapman. She and husband Calvin Stewart settled in Liberty precinct on a homestead southeast of the present Union and endured early county hardships. Her funeral was held yesterday at Caion and she was laid to rest in the local cemetery.
Sam Johneeon of Avoca with Henry Beatie of Avoca visited the courthouse on Saturday to conduct business and stopped by the Journal to renew their subscription for another year. Johnson is a prominent Cass county resident and the Journal family expresses pleasure at meeting him.

Ami B Todd prominent Cass County resident dies in Denver after extended gallstone illness. He served as Cass County commissioner and lived in the city most of his life before moving to Denver eight years ago. He was born in New York in 1842 and survived by his children and several siblings. Funeral services were held after 2 pm at his sister Mrs Dywers home, with interment at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Fragments from Fridays Daily report the district court appeal over the estate of William J. OBrien. The widow allegedly received a one third share after the will favored Mrs Willem Morley, with the estate claiming a full settlement for her share.
