Plattsmouth High School Alumni Banquet Held at Modern Woodman

Plattsmouth alumni gathered for their second annual banquet at the Modern Woodman hall. Addressed by former school members, the event emphasized sustaining the alumni association and school spirit with Ralph Larson as president and Edna Shopp as secretary treasurer. Rue Frans presided and several graduates gave short messages praising ongoing efforts. The hall featured blue and white decorations reflecting the local school colors.

Our townsman and merchant Mr. Simons has decided to leave Ord and move his stock to Plattsmouth by the first of the new year. He is described as square and upright, with a good business despite a poor location in Ord. Plattsmouth will gain an excellent family when the Simonses relocate.

Uncle Jesse McVey Stricken By Illness

Uncle Jesse McVey, boarding at the Perkins House, has suffered three days of illness described as neuralgia and rheumatism. He recently returned from a trip to Ohio and Illinois and had been in good health before falling sick, forcing him to stay largely in his room and out of work.

Fine Christmas Celebration At Masonic Home

On Christmas day residents of the Masonic Home enjoyed a festive celebration organized with help from Masonic and Eastern Star lodges. A decorated tree, gifts, a feasting menu including roast turkey and mince pie, and an afternoon concert by the Methodist junior choir filled the day with cheer for Supt. Askwith and the home’s members.

Union business leader R. H. Frans stricken at home

A telephone report says R. H. Frans a prominent Union businessman has paralysis from a stroke at his home. His son Rue Frans rushed home from the high school alumni banquet to be with him. The community regrets the illness of this well regarded citizen.

Celebration of Christmas in Plattsmouth

Plattsmouth celebrated Christmas across churches with multiple services. St John's and Holy Rosary filled for early masses. St. Pauls hosted a large Christmas Eve program. Methodist held children’s events and a White Gift offering. Presbyterian staged a Spirit of Christmas play and Santa cantata. St Luke's held Christmas services with Holy Communion.

Snipe Hunters Come Alive After Long Slumber in Plattsmouth

A group of young farmers near Plattsmouth planned a snipe hunting expedition. They assigned Henry Lerner to hold the sack while others waited in the field. The prank ended with Lerner returning home, realizing he was the target of a practical joke. The hunting party included Robert Davidson, Will Kelly, Philip Tritsch, William Macey, Fritz Meisinger, Jess Terryberry, Earl Terryberry, Frank Fight, and Henry Leiner.

Married in Plattsmouth Christmas Night

Last evening at 6 at the home of Mrs. Eva Reece in Plattsmouth, Karl Reece married Miss Alice Hazel Lehr of Omaha. Rev. Suther of St. John's church performed the Episcopal ceremony. The couple will be at home in Omaha after February 11.

Changes in Burlington Train Times Spark Local Travel Adjustments

The Burlington passenger department announces timetable changes effective January 4. No. 2 Chicago train will depart Omaha at 3 30 and arrive here about 4 10, forty minutes earlier. No. 14 night train from Omaha leaves at 8 30 and should reach here about 9 20. Residents welcome the improved arrivals and express some regret at the earlier No. 2 schedule.

A report reached here Saturday afternoon through Attorney D C Dwyer that Ami B Todd formerly of Cas county and a former county commissioner is at St Luke's Hospital in Denver in serious condition after gallstone surgery five days earlier. Todd, a leading Republican and longtime resident, faces grave concerns about recovery.

James Higley Sentenced to Ten Years for Forgery

The State Journal reports James Higley of Plattsmouth received a ten year sentence in the penitentiary for forgery after pleading guilty. Judge Stewart sentenced him Saturday, noting Higley’s frail health and troubling background, saying the prison term was for his own protection.

Sudden Death of J W Vallery Shocks Community

Jacob W W Vallery died reportedly of heart failure after a walk up Rheek street. Found near Beech and Eleventh by Anne Tyler, his body was taken to the home of P J Vallery and funeral services set for 2 PM at Oak Hill cemetery. He was born in 1855 in Waverly Ohio and resided in Case county Nebraska. Surviving family includes two daughters and several siblings. Reverend D L Dunkieberser to officiate.
