Martin Friederich Dies After Illness at Cass County Home
Martin L. Friederich a prominent Cass County resident died Saturday evening after weeks of illness. Born in Germany in 1854 he came to America in 1859 and settled near Pekin Illinois before moving to Nebraska in 1882. He served as state representative in 1900 and 1902 and as county commissioner in 1906 1908, leaving farming and family duties to the end. He is survived by his wife Eva and four children Louis Nicholas William and Amelia, plus a sister and a brother. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 pm at the family home with Oak Hill cemetery interment.

The George Washington highway from the city north to the Platte river wagon and auto bridge is in very good condition now. The section from the city limits to Oreapolis and much of the route is as hard and smooth as pavement thanks to Highway Commissioner McKee and his crew. Some rough spots north of the Burlington tracks remain, but overall the road is among its best in years and should stay smooth if no more rain comes.
