King Korn promotes a kittenball fundraiser to finance the Korn Karnival with all-star women and men’s leagues competing next week. A 25 cent ducat admits the purchaser and family to three or four games, with proceeds supporting the September festival and Main Street booths.
A large extended family gathered at Mrs. G. A. Meisinger's North 7th street home for a Sunday visit and noon dinner. Guests included Mrs. Mary Vetter and family, Philip Vetter of Pekin Illinois, P. P. Meisinger and family of Plattsmouth, Emil Meisinger and daughters from Greenwood, L. G. Meisinger and Ellen Nora, Ed Meisinger and Donna Fern, Mrs. Fred Hanni and daughter Maxine of Murray, plus the hosts.
Mr and Mrs Verner Hild of Mynard welcome a fine daughter born August 6 at Methodist hospital Omaha. Mother and baby are doing nicely. This is the first girl in the family and friends extend best wishes for their future happiness.
The Red Sox defeated the Omaha Merchants 10 to 0 as Hopkins pitched six hits allowed and two triples. Svoboda New Man made strong defensive plays, Spidell guided the infield, and Joe Krejci stole home in the sixth inning.
Mr and Mrs W R Young of this city and Mr and Mrs J H Ruhmann of Union recently completed a 30 day auto tour through the west and into British Columbia. They report widespread damage from grasshoppers across the region, noting millions of hoppers on highways near Winner and widespread eating of paint bark and crops in South Dakota.
Tom Sedlak of Omaha placed a small want ad in the Journal while in Plattsmouth. The ad drew about fifteen inquiries and the property near the country club was rented promptly.
Plattsmouth lodge No 6 and Home Chapter No 189 hosted a Sunday picnic at the Country Club grounds. Members and families, guests from the Nebraska Masonic Home, enjoyed kittenball golf and supervised games with L S Devoe organizing activities followed by outdoor supper and a late evening treat.
Relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs James Yelick to celebrate Mrs Rishels seventy ninth birthday. A noon dinner for fifty six was served by her daughters. Attendees included her children and numerous relatives from Omaha Gretna and Des Moines with twenty three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The party planned another such gathering in the future.
At a Sunday congregational meeting St. Pauls Evangelical invited Rev Walter Press of St Louis to preach and consider filling the vacancy left by Rev C G Wichmann. Press, son of Dr G Press, has West preaching experience and training at a major eastern seminary.
Rev. O G Wichmann's daughter Miss Dora arrived by car at her Denver home this morning after driving the entire distance alone. Relatives and friends expressed relief and pleasure that she completed the trip without incident.
Miss Vestetta Robertson hosted a porch party for the young social set honoring Donald Gray of Vivian Louisiana a noted midwest track star and Nebraska university student Guests included Ursula Herold Charles H Boedeker II and many local residents The guest of honor will compete in an upcoming San Francisco meet and is known for his broad jump records The event featured bridge refreshments and flowers with prizes awarded to several guests
The Pease Style shop in the Bekin building is redecorating its main sales room as part of NRA employment driven program. Charles Fulton and Clarence Forbes direct work with James Bulin finishing the ceiling while painters paper the walls, aiming to present a bright space for upcoming fall and winter stock.
The Plattsmouth Woman's club will hold a preschool clinic at the American Legion building on August 31 and September 1 for children aged one to five. Mrs. Fred Lugsch leads the event with participation from city medical and dental professionals offering free services.
A suit filed in Cass County District Court by Standard Savings & Loan of Omaha seeks to enjoin the City of Plattemouth from selling its tax interest in property on Chicago Avenue known as Parmelo Place. The petition alleges improper paving taxes and asks for title to the property with division excluding 140 feet along Chicago Avenue, plus payment of just taxes except special improvement taxes.
Sunday afternoon at the Kostka country home a miscellaneous shower honored Miss Steph ana Kostke for her upcoming marriage to Glen Madison of Des Moines. Miss Mil dred Kostka and Miss Norene Mayabbe hosted with many ladies in attendance. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. Henry Kaufmann and Mrs. Frank Rebal, and guests presented gifts for the new home. A luncheon followed hosted by the hostesses and Mrs. Kostka assisted in serving.
Exterior of the Barclay building on Main Street is being repainted brick red with new trim to boost the city’s appearance. Harry Kruger and his workmen lead the project as part of ongoing improvements. interior redecorating had been completed months earlier.
Mayor John P. Sattler councilmen Frank Bestor H A Schneider E A Wurl and A J Tril ety spent the day in Lincoln handling city business. The quartet led the committee presenting the city's request for federal aid in the street program and worked from the state department of roads and irrigation office.
The First Methodist church choir in Council Bluffs will supply programs for KOIL radio this month. The sacred song series airs Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays at 3 20 pm with the pastor Rev. C C Troy and choir also performing Sunday August 20 and August 27 with a sermon and musical program. Mrs E H Wescott is slated as soloist for the first broadcast and the choir is praised as one of the citys leading musical groups.
Mr and Mrs O T Leyda entertained the T L Wiles family at their Murray home on Sunday in honor of Mr and Mrs Oscar Uffelman whose marriage was in June. A buffet luncheon featured fried chicken and season’s delicacies. The Christian church quartet performed and lawn conversation followed.
The infant child of Mr and Mrs Glenn Dooley died last night at their home near Oreapolis. Funeral services were held at the residence conducted by Elder Carl Dooley of the Holiness church. Mrs Steinkamp and Mrs Ronne sang hymns during the service. Interment followed at Oak Hill cemetery under Sattler funeral home.
Mrs Freeman McFarland and Isabel depart Thursday night by bus for Chicago to visit their son Lewis McFarland and his wife and to see the fair. Lewis works at the Continental Trust Bank.
A city kittenball enthusiasts group secured funds to install flood lights at Athletic Park. A new board led by A. H. Duxbury will oversee installation and maintenance with lights expected by early next week for the King Kom all star series and two all star ladies teams. Tickets cost 25 cents to fund the Korn Karnival.
Tuesday afternoon a miscellaneous shower honored Miss Marie Meisinger, bride to be of Raymond Haith of Davenport Nebraska. Hostesses Mrs J M Meisinger and Mrs Bernard Meisinger organized the tea towels craft and recipe gifts for fifty guests, with out of town attendees Mrs G B Gjerde Omaha Mrs W H Haith Weeping Water and Mrs Ivan Haith Red Cloud.
City beauty shops and hair dressing establishments met at the Powder Puff shop to discuss changes required by the new code law. The code for beauticians will be issued early in September as shops prepare to adjust operations and prices.
