Inquest Planned After Fatal Barn Shooting of Kaffenberger
After the body of August Kaffenberger was found shot in a barn on his farm west of town, County Attorney W G Kieck ordered an inquest to determine the manner of death. The bullet perforated the lungs, contradicting an initial mouth wound theory. Relatives believe an accidental rifle discharge caused the death as he intended to shoot a rat, and he had planned to travel to Lincoln for a lodge meeting. A six member inquest jury was selected.

Knights Templar Attend Nebraska State Parade and Drill
Mt. Zion commandery Knights Templar members traveled to Lincoln for the Nebraska Knights Templar state convention. The drill team participated in a parade and competitive drills at the state university Coliseum, with teams from across the state. Barn and Out Buildings Burned at Marvin Winters Home
Fire destroyed the barn hog house and chicken coop at Marvin Winters residence in the city’s west end. Neighbors saw the blaze spread rapidly while the Winters were away in Omaha. A sow and seven pigs perished, with stock rescued from the barn and other structures burned. Sparks from burning corn stalks likely rekindled embers carried by strong winds.

Cattle Struck and Killed by Train Near Perth Crossing
Twelve cattle owned by C Lawrence Stull, a prominent farmer, were killed or fatally injured when a northbound freight plowed through a herd at a road crossing north of the city. The accident occurred as the cattle strayed from pasture and were on the tracks near the Perth crossing at Orapolis.

Funeral services for Auecust Kaffenberg were held at First Presbyterian Church with many friends in attendance. Dr. Harry G. McClusky delivered a consoling message as the Masonic quartet performed hymns and Mt Zion Commandery Knights Templar provided an escort at church and grave. Masonic burial rites were conducted by Platte mouth Lodge No. 66 with W. A. Robertson delivering the eulogy.

Mrs. Carl Kiser formerly Jessie Ledgwer is critically ill with double pneumonia and heart trouble at Arrow Wood Alberta Canada. Edith Hanusse, a chief, is with her. Mrs. Kiser is the eldest daughter of John Sedgway and has lived in Canada since 1926.
