Plane Man Killed In First Fire Death
A 35 year old man died at 2601 Raintree after a mattress fire likely caused by smoking in bed. Fire Marshal Bill Threet said the lone victim was pronounced at 12:27 a.m. The blaze was confined to the bed with minor bedroom damage while investigators seek the victim’s identity.

Fireworks Disturbances Spark Police Attention Ahead of Fourth
As the Fourth of July nears police log fireworks complaints with seven reports filed Monday and no arrests at the scene. Officers handled 79 calls for help and investigated six thefts including two bicycle thefts and two vehicle-related break-ins. Four people were arrested: a 40 year old man for simple assault family disturbance, a 20 year old man for no license and no inspection, a 55 year old man for driving while intoxicated, and a 19 year old woman for passing worthless checks.
Classified Ad Rates Increase in Plano Daily Star Courier
Advertising manager Tim Vickery announced July 1 an increase in classified rates. Rates for 20 words or less now cost 2.40 for one insertion, 5.50 for three, 6.90 for five, 12 for 10, and 20 for 20 insertions as paid circulation grows. This aligns prices with other newspapers.
