Harry Thompson of the Plano Chamber of Commerce lauds the city for strong schools, recreation, and government. He predicts Plano will gain two to three major industries in 1977 and attract over a hundred new retail establishments, highlighting broad community appeal.
CofC's Thompson says 77 will be a good year with plans for a motel in 1977. He cites transportation issues for Plano industries, urging widening US 75 FM 544 to Preston Rd and to Lewisville per the 1990 plan. He urges Preston Rd improvements to four lanes to SH 121 and notes Parker Rd and Spring Creek Pkwy links.

Tomorrow at 10 30 a m the county will swear in top officials including Judges Tom Ryan of Plano and William Ralph Elliott of Sherman along with County Court Judge Bill Jouette County Commissioners Bailey Dickerson and Wallace Webb Sheriff Jerry Burton and Tax Assessor Helen Lawson plus constables Grady Mills George Johnson Bob Bell Lewis Hofford George Arie and J P Leftice Justices of the Peace Joe Steenbergen Plano and John K Buddy Newton already sworn in will be honored at the public ceremony and reception in the District Courtroom on the second floor of the County Courthouse.
The Calendar Committee will hear parental and staff opinions at 4 p.m. January 3 at Armstrong Middle School 3805 Timberline. The 11 member panel seeks input on start end and holiday dates before finalizing the 1977 78 school year calendar for Plano ISD.
Armstong principal Dwight Beavett chairs the Calendar Committee after gathering over 1,000 input items from parents and staff. The proposed calendar adds in service days, early starts, and a winter break ending Jan. 3, with a spring break March 20 24 and a Saturday final day June 3 for staff.
An abandoned house in far northwest Plano burned to the ground Thursday morning. Firefighters faced a poor water supply and the fire is under investigation. The property is owned by Robert 5 Folsom Investments. Three pieces of equipment, two chiefs and five men responded to the 11 57 am call. Firefighters also handled four grass fires, two out of city calls Renner and Murphy, a 1 46 p m call on US 75, and a backyard grass fire at 1400 Amhurst. They performed two smoke investigations, a truck fire extinguishing, two miscellaneous services and one ambulance run.
