Bing Crosby lawyers win a round as Jack Harris seeks to bar letters claiming Harris imitates Crosby’s voice in commercials. A Superior Court judge refuses to enjoin Crosby’s lawyers from contacting sponsors until the suit is decided.
The skeleton of 16 year old Sherrye Joyce Smith found in Blue Ridge Park near Lake Lavon is identified by dental records as the missing Dallas girl who vanished May 16 from an East Dallas apartment. Investigators say the death is a homicide caused by a .22 pistol slug as part of a wider four-body case in Collin County.
Pam Troboy reports council members asked the EPA to assess noise and air pollution from Capital Wire & Cable at 910 10th St. Fred Mayes cites intolerable noise and skin rashes from pollutants, saying residents cannot hear phones at home and have failed to get company cooperation.
In a first of its kind case the Supreme Court ponders whether a policeman must obey grooming rules limiting hair length. The eight justices questioned Suffolk County officials and the patrolmen's union about personal liberty versus a compelling government interest.
Commissioners denied low bid errors for dump trucks and set new bid dates while appointing staff for the new County Court at Law. Two burglaries were reported including tape equipment from Senior High School and a TV from a University of Plano dorm. Four thefts were noted, plus 17 arrests for warrants shoplifting AWOL public intoxication and other charges. Four vehicle crashes produced minor injuries and several drivers and residents from Dallas Denton Lewisville and surrounding areas were involved.
Treasury Secretary Simon urged the Senate Finance Committee to back Ford’s $395 billion spending ceiling and warned the President would veto any tax cut extension without a spending cap. Nessen said Ford believes a brief extension would not harm the economy and polls show public support for the ceiling.
