Trees removed for road widening on Independence Pkwy

City contractor chopped down several dozen hackberries to widen Independence Parkway to six lanes and add left turn lanes. Officials say trees removed were necessary to support pavement and median clearance, with plans to replant oaks or crepe myrtle after paving.

Plano and Richardson Jaycees team with the Friendship CB Club to man rest stops on North Central Expressway Parker and Renner Roads with four hour daily shifts through Labor Day. Light Police Activity With Records Of Burglaries And Crashes

Police report light activity on Wednesday with one arrest on out-of-town warrants. Four residential burglaries two bicycle thefts and a miscellaneous theft were investigated along with 47 calls for assistance. Four accidents caused varying damage including collisions on US 75 Parker Road and intersections 14th and L Avenue K and W 15th Custer Road with $50 road sign damage.

Nine jurors chosen in Lubbock murder trial
