County Commissioners Complete Short Morning Agenda

County commissioners cleared five items in thirty minutes and held an hour long executive session on real estate and personnel after approving prior minutes. They approved a barricade removal on the south access road linked to Highway 78 east of Plano, and awarded a motor grader bid to Darr Equipment Co with a $2500 trade in for $49,500 total. The Actual Use Report of the Federal Revenue Sharing Fund was approved and no meeting will be held next Monday September 1 for Labor Day.

City Accepts Low Bid for 14th Street Lot

The City Council approved a 0.8 acre Del Sol Drive corner parcel sale to Meadows Baptist Church for 59.5 cents per square foot reversing expected value. The sale aims to recoup Fire Station No. 3 costs after the land was bought for the station site.

Meadows Baptist Church Buys City Land for Parking Lot

The Meadows Baptist Church won unanimous council approval of a $23,000 bid to purchase city land to build a parking lot. The city will keep access to a nearby pump station. The council also okayed a $241,804 North Texas Municipal Water District budget and approved five zoning actions including Heritage Manor Nursing Home plat and Pitman Corners shopping center plats.

Middleman Profit Up in July as Farmer Gains Lead

The Agriculture Department reports the middleman took 56.9 cents per consumer dollar in July while farmers earned 43.1 cents. Retail farm food prices rose 3.4 percent, with total marketing margins up 9.8 percent from a year earlier, aided by higher hogs eggs potatoes and wheat and Russian sales.

Crash Kills Murphy Girl in Renner County

Sixteen year old Terry Lynn Gallager of 150 Skyline, Murphy, died after a two car crash on Preston Road in Renner. She was driving a 1971 Plymouth at high speed when she lost control, struck a parked vehicle, and was treated at Plane General Hospital. The crash occurred about 1:50 a.m. according to a Department of Public Safety spokesman.

Robbery at 7 11 Store on Avenue K Involves White Male Suspect

A lone gunman robbed the 7 11 at 2901 Avenue K on Sunday night taking about 80 dollars. The white male, late 20s, fled in a light color Toyota after threatening the clerk who was stocking cigarettes. Police describe the suspect 59 to 5 10 inches tall weighing 160 to 165 pounds with blue jeans and a white T shirt. Investigation ongoing as police note this is the second convenience store robbery in eight days amid broader weekend burglaries and accidents.
