Blaze Engulfs Stone Creek Home. Firefighter Injured

Burned Out Charles Johnson and his son survey the wreckage at 2509 Stone Creek after a Sunday fire gutted the residence. Fire Marshals report calls came in at 11 30 a m and fire crews arrived within three minutes to find attic and roof in flames. The blaze was under control in about an hour with crews on scene two more hours. Twenty three firefighters and five pieces of equipment responded. firefighter Art Burns sustained neck burns when rafters collapsed.

Anti Airport Petition Grows Ahead of Public Hearing

Arch Howell reports over 2000 signatures gathered in Plano for the anti airport petition with 18 carriers yet to report as the Sept 4 Richardson Shiloh Airport environmental hearing approaches and petitions will be presented at the meeting.

Plano council approves vehicle bid and street work

The City Council spent over 70000 in under 45 minutes approving a 30747 bid for a front loading refuse truck to Industrial Disposal Supply and a 42253.79 final payment to Weaver Construction Co for street and utility work on 19th St G Ave and 10th St. They named S D Waugh auditor and set actions on Fire Station No 3, budget hearing for Sept 8, and a plumbing code study related to landscape irrigation connections.

Pickets Halt Plano High School Construction

Construction at Plano Senior High School was halted Monday as Sheetmetal Workers union members picketed over metal locker installations by apprentice carpenters. After talks, the line was removed and work resumed Tuesday morning as negotiations continued. superintendent Hendrick urged cooperation to ready the school for the Aug. 18 opening.

Scheduling Starts For Plano Schools This Week

Plano secondary students begin scheduling for the new term with seniors at Williams High School on Wednesday and juniors on Thursday. Westside sophomores pick up schedules at Williams on Friday, with ninth graders and new students receiving times, and middle schools distributing lockers and assignments through the week.

Reserved Seats Still Available for Plano Wildcat Football

About 150 reserved seat season tickets for Plano Wildcat home games go on sale at 9 a.m. Thursday Aug. 14 at the School Administration Building. Remaining seats are evenly split between Sections C and D on the west stands and priced at 11.25 per five tickets. Sales run 9 a.m. to 4 30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with unsold tickets available per-game later.

Recession Bottoming Says U S Treasurer Neff

U S Treasurer Francine I Neff told the Soil Conservation Society of America that the recession has bottomed out and the near term outlook is encouraging though long range problems remain. She urged Congress to consider energy, tax and fiscal reforms as money returns to thrift institutions and housing permits rise.
