An attempted burglary at Eckerd Drugs on West 15th failed to steal items but caused about 2500 dollars in damages. A roof breach allowed rain to ruin inventory. ceiling collapses were noted. Building damage estimated at 500 dollars and inventory loss at 2000 dollars. Police continue investigation. Three men were arrested for theft of shingles. suspects stopped on US 75 near Campbell and Renner. Additional arrests included seven others for illegal entry and related offenses.

Swimming Instruction Opens Fifth Summer Session

Contested 1948 Johnson Election Allegations Surface
Texas Comptroller Bob Bullock rejects claims by Luis Salas that Lyndon Johnson stole the 1948 Senate run runoff by adding 202 votes. Salas, a former Jim Wells County official, said the names came from poll tax lists, but Bullock’s office found no matching names. Johnson won by 87 votes amid a Coke Stevenson contest.

Candle Ignites Home Fire In McConnell Residence
Firefighters responded to a home blaze at 5 05 p m Tuesday on Canyon Valley Trail 2803 caused by an unattended lit candle in a child’s bedroom. McConnell daughter alerted neighbors and used a garden hose before firefighters arrived at 5 08 and extinguished the flames by 5 13. Ambulances also handled three runs including a hospital transfer.

Apparent death by own action in Plano home
John Ted Kennish aged 39 of 1620 Amhurst was found shot to death in his Plano home. Police say a 22 caliber rifle caused the wound and a death by own action ruling is pending autopsy results by Justice of the Peace Joe Steen bergen. The death was reported by his wife Shirley at 4:47 p.m. Tuesday.
